I have long been aware that there are many Catholic Orders in the U.S., but I recently came across this Wikipedia listing and was surprised to see that there are 42 different Catholic Orders which own universities and colleges. The following webpage has links to the Wikipedia articles for each of the 42 Orders and Congregations, links to the Wikipedia articles for all 197 schools, and links to the official websites for many of the universities and colleges.

I started this thread to share information that I found interesting, and to provide an easy-access portal to many sites that other Holy Land of Hoops posters many find of interest. Please respect this sentiment by not posting any 'BE expansion' comments on this thread. There are numerous other HLOH threads available for that topic, all of which are irrelevant for the foreseeable future.

Butler University - Wikipedia
Butler University opened on November 1, 1855, as North Western Christian University at 13th Street and College Avenue on Indianapolis' near north side. Butler University was founded by members of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), though it was never controlled by the church. The university charter called for "a nonsectarian institution free from the taint of slavery, offering instruction in every branch of liberal and professional education."
University of Richmond - Wikipedia
The University of Richmond is a private, nonsectarian, liberal arts college located in the city of Richmond, Virginia. Founded by Virginia Baptists in 1830 as a manual labor institute for men wishing to become ministers, the school was incorporated ten years later as Richmond College. During the American Civil War, the entire student body formed a regiment and joined the Confederate army.
