Midway Point of the BE Conf Season

Storylines:

Nova is till the team to beat. No Spellman, no Booth, no problem. Scary to think how good they might have been if those two were playing.

The Butler way. Biggest pleasant surprise. Legit FF contender to this point.

What happened to Watson and Creighton is completely unfair. MW stirred the drink and man were they fun to watch with him in there. Not sure they can do any damage in March without him. Unfortunate and the Jays program and fans deserve better.

X, even with a healthy Summer, just seems off this year. If he's out put them in the same category as CU. Unfortunate.

Marq. has seemed to turn the corner. They can really shoot the ball. But can they stop anyone from scoring as well?

SHU has 3 of the top 15 players in the league but are underperforming. Maybe Whitehead was the critical piece and Willard not as good as thought following last year.

Love the grit of a Cooley team. Rooting for them but not sure they have enough runway to get a bid. Expect big things from them next year.

Georgetown has way too much talent for their record. Is it an indictment of JT3 or just some bad luck and the wrong mix of players?

Johnnies doing what a young talented team does: surprising wins and surprising losses. Fun young backcourt to build on.

DePaul has shown no sign that they'll be any different than they've always been.

POY - Hart
COY - Holtmann
ROY - Patton / Ponds (tie)

All BE 1st Team:
Hart
Delgado
Blueitt
Cartwright
Martin
Brunson

NCAA Teams : VU, BU, CU, X, Marq.

Good write up. Beginning to think that last season was a fluke season for Willard and he is the same coach people were thinking he was two years ago. Whitehead most likely saved Willard's job for awhile.

still sick to my stomach about losing Mo. We looked like a possible FF contender. Now my expectations are to hopefully make the tourney and win a game or two.

Feel really bad for X fans, definitely know what that feeling is like...

Yep, have a bad feeling both teams have seen their point guards play their last game in a college uniform. Can't imagine how bad it will be come time to play Nova without our primary ball handler against that defense. Goal now is to make the tournament for Xavier.

For what it's worth, if the Big East Tournament started today, it would be:

Wednesday:
#7 Providence vs. #10 DePaul
#8 Seton Hall vs. #9 Georgetown

Thursday:
#1 Villanova vs. Seton Hall/Georgetown Winner
#2 Butler vs. Providence/DePaul winner
#3 Creighton vs. #6 St. John's
#4 Xavier vs. #5 Marquette

At the moment, I wouldn't say Seton Hall has 3 of the top 15 players. Just 2. As well as Carrington played OOC, he's really struggled in Big East play. His last good shooting night was the Big East opener @ Creighton, when he scored an efficient 27 in a losing effort. Since then, he's averaged 12 ppg on 32% shooting. He's also averaged 3.5 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.4 steals. The rest of those numbers are decent, but the Hall really needs him to get his shot falling again.

If we're talking about the first half of the season, I wouldn't be able to leave Watson and Sumner off my first team. I also like what Johnson has done for Marquette this year.

You're right. I should have written the caveat of who I expect to be All-BE by season's end (assuming Summer will be out for 2ns half).

Okay. I get it. In that case, my only disagreement is that I would add Johnson.

I'm really happy with the way the Big East has performed out of conference this season......I'm happy with the incremental progress of my Johnnies.....I'm just very depressed about the prospects for the NCAA tournament compared to how I felt a few weeks ago.....Creighton and Xavier were 2 teams I thought could make an Elite 8 or Final 4 appearance but the injuries have deflated my hopes.....I hope they can both rally.......I've got tickets to the Final 4 this year so I really hope at least 1 Big East team can make it......
