Does it vary greatly from school to school? (i.e. maybe, just guessing, Kentucky allocates a quarter to basketball while Mississippi State gives 1/50th)... I've been trying to find these numbers online but I don't see them breaking it down anywhere.
I can't break it down by just the TV revenue because the SEC's TV deal is football, men's basketball, women's basketball, baseball, and women's soccer all lumped together. It's impossible to itemize which sport gets how much when the school, and not the sport, that gets the money. I can give you the total revenue and total expense for the SEC and Big East.
Understand just about every basketball program makes money. It has low overhead (for lack of a better term) in terms of the number of players and coaches, and it's the first or second most popular sport just about everywhere. No one loses money on it. That's why just about everyone has it.
Also understand that you mentioned the SEC specifically. Part of the overall generated revenue will include what the league made off of advertising and commercials during basketball games that aired on the SEC Network, as well as what the league made from the cable and satellite providers during the basketball season (January, February, and March). It's not necessarily a predetermined set amount the way it is for the Big East
The first figure is the expense. The second figure is the revenue. Last year's numbers aren't out yet, so this is for the 2014-2015 athletic year. 15-16 is basically due toward the end of 16-17, but it's enough to give you the idea....
Alabama - $7,164,296 $12,780,576
Arkansas - $8,425,122 $16,314,973
Auburn - $8,818,072 $11,185,840
Florida - $10,103,924 $10,407,574
Georgia - $5,933,136 $9,029,690
Kentucky - $20,009,991 $24,684,543
LSU - $6,062,843 $7,995,454
Mississippi State - $5,167,067 $6,322,580
Missouri - $5,746,352 $11,607,812
Ole Miss - $6,135,641 $7,906,206
South Carolina - $6,852,555 $8,795,178
Tennessee - $6,068,357 $16,927,676
Texas A&M - $6,876,558 $8,134,514
Vanderbilt - $9,919,002 $9,919,002 (I've heard that for Vandy specifically, basketball is basically told they don't have to share. Whatever they make is all theirs. Football pays for everything else).
Butler - $4,518,512 $4,518,512
Creighton - $6,533,960 $6,533,960
De Paul - $9,175,262 $9,175,262
Georgetown - $10,357,033 $10,357,033

Providence - $7,308,255 $7,308,255
Seton Hall - $6,752,792 $6,752,792
Saint John's - 10,511,821 10,521,821
Villanova - $8,171,404 10,373,661
Xavier - $5,518,383 $12,378,923
It's not that surprising that Xavier makes that much. I know they have suites all the way around the arena, and those alone probably rake in a few million. What I didn't know is that they spent so little. They only spend $2.1 million total on coaching salaries, which isn't small for a non-P5 school, but for a school that makes over $12 million on the sport it kind of is. Perhaps they've raised that after last year, but still. They spend a lot on their other sports. I've never thought of Xavier as being a big player in baseball, soccer, volleyball, etc, but they are certainly well financed.
As you can see, for most of the Big East, what they make on basketball goes right back in to basketball.
