20 conference games

with the ACC Network starting in 2019, one thing that is happening is they're going to 20 conference basketball games.....

You wonder if the Big East will be almost forced to expand to keep up- especially if the Big 10, Pac 12, and SEC go to 20 as well.... There's going to be fewer OOC chances now as most ACC teams will have 20 conference games, exempt tournament, and ACC/Big Ten challenge. That's 25 games right there. Only 6 left, with some teams having only 10 home games at that point. the rest of their schedule would be at least 4 buy games, if not a 5th.

Exempt tournaments only count as one game.

true- but even with the exempt tournaments, you are allowed 31 games total. I guess it's 28 w/o exempt tournament, 31 with exempt tournament...

Right, so either way, what you wrote to begin with is wrong.

not really...

if a team isn't playing in exempt tournament....
28 games possible
20 conference games
1 acc/big ten challenge
7 available games

if a team is playing in exempt tournament
31 games possible(if exempt tournament is 4 games. If exempt tournament is 3 games, only 30 is possible then)
20 conference games
4 exempt games
1 acc/big ten challenge
6 available games

End of the day ACC team would have 6-7 OOC slots available.

No need to expand because ACC is going to 20 games. There are plenty of schools to schedule out there. Has no effect on us at all.

If the P5 all go to 20 games, that would be a pretty decent jump SOS for those conferences.

And you know that the other P5 conferences are going to go to 20. They pretty much have to.

If the P5 all went to 20 games, for SOS purposes it would matter. And yes, you would expect the other conferences to follow suit.

Lol come on Stever... This is very reactionary to something that's minor. I'm pretty sure most Big East teams can schedule tougher opponents OOC if necessary. Actually, I'm certain they can. So no this won't force the Big East to expand.

They are being forced into it by ESPN so they have more material for the ACC network (which ESPN owns 100%.)

20 conference games is a bad idea and would only result in less tourney bids.
