Big East Players Selected

Kris Dunn 5- Minnesota Timberwolves
Henry Ellinson 18- Detroit Pistons
Isiah Whitehead 42- Drafted by the Utah Jazz, Traded to the Brooklyn Nets
Ben Bentil 51- Boston Celtics

I hate to say it was a disappointment but I was expecting Dunn to be 3, Ellinson to top 15, Whitehead top 30, and Bentil top 40 but of course my expectations are always high. Best of luck to the Big East players at the next level!

well IMO 3 of the 4 landed in excellent situations. Only one not really is Whitehead IMO.

Dunn and Ellison being 3 vs. 5 or 15 vs. 18 isn't a big deal.

Losing Bentil and Whitehead to late second round picks sucks for PC, SH and the BE.

Its all about the situation. My understanding is that Brooklyn is going into full rebuild mode so it is very likely that Whitehead will get NBA minutes and a contract. Bentil also has a chance at Boston, though not quite as easily as Whitehead will. Dunn is teaming up with the best defensive coach in the NBA and Ellenson gets to play alongside Andre Drummond which will let him be a true stretch 4.

Obviously being a first round pick is the goal, but 10 of those went to international players so the best you can hope for is a team ready to help you grow and get playing time.

I don't think Whitehead's situation is that bad. He was always gonna be a second round pick, so that's no surprise. Yeah, he's gonna lose a lot of basketball games in Brooklyn, but at least going to a poor team gives him a better chance of actually making the NBA squad (something a lot of 2nd round picks fail to do). Plus, being from Brooklyn himself gives the Nets a little PR incentive to keep him on the roster if he's borderline. He's in a situation where he'll certainly get a fair chance to prove himself. The rest is up to him.

yeah I get all that. But that franchise is a dumpster fire IMO. One of the 3-4 worst in the league right now. Maybe that allows him to stick around- knowing he's a local kid like you said.

Oh I totally agree with that. It's not a place where he's gonna have a chance to win anytime soon. But that shouldn't be his concern right now. His only concern at the moment should be getting an NBA contract with guaranteed money (something far from a given for 2nd round picks) and Brooklyn gives him a better chance of getting that contract than most franchises. He'll get a chance to prove himself on the court and if he does that he'll be able to work the other stuff out.

You weren't disappointed more that Reynolds didn't get drafted at all?

Even Jalen didn't expect to get drafted, so there was nothing to be disappointed about.

Not at all. At the end of the year it was obvious he was nowhere close to being ready for the NBA and he would go Euro. It was never the plan for him to stay and I'd say half way through the season the hope for him to go NBA quickly changed to the reality he will be leaving early for Europe.
