Amazing player. Those were really, really fun years, 84 to 86. Sorry to hear this news.

Chris Mullin, St. John’s University Head Men’s Basketball Coach:
“Pearl Washington was one of the fiercest competitors I ever faced and such a wonderful gentleman who will truly be missed. He will always be remembered as one of the all-time great players in New York City basketball history. There are so many fond memories that I have of Pearl from our time growing up in Brooklyn and then as BIG EAST rivals, but what stands out most was his genuine and caring nature. Our thoughts and prayers are with Pearl’s family and friends.”

Saw Pearl a couple times in and around MSG during the BET. From afar, looked like a nice guy by the way he interacted with fans.

Dude could flat out ball. The amount of talent in the BE in the Mid-80's was sick, and the Pearl might have been the best show the BE has ever put on.

After 30 years, many of the Big East legends are still with us, except for Gavitt and Pearl. I think the only 2 coaches from the 80's who have passed away are Joe Mullaney and Dr Roy Chipman. Not sure if Hoddy Mahon is still alive.
