Major Political Figures

It's full-on political season, so I was wondering who are your school's most important political figures (alive or dead)? Do any of them have connections to the athletics programs (especially basketball) at your school?

At PC, for better or for worse, I'd say the below:

Ray Flynn: former three-term Mayor of Boston. He was a star on the basketball team

Chris Dodd: former US Senator from CT

Thomas Dodd: former US Senator from CT (father of Chris)

Richard Daley: former six-term Mayor of Chicago

Howard McGrath: former US Attorney General, US Senator from RI, Governor of RI

Patrick Kennedy: former US Representative from RI (son of Ted Kennedy)

I believe there are others at similar levels.

Harry Stewart New - Chairman of RNC, U.S. Senator from Indiana, U.S. Postmaster General

George Ryan - 39th Governor of Illinois, lesser offices in Illinois, DePaul fans probably remember "Operation Safe Road" during his tenure as governor

Marvin Scott (professor, not alumnus) - Has ran for U.S. Senate and U.S. House but has failed, has served on some political committees/councils

Bonus:

Butler's proudest son: Good 'ol Jim Jones - desegregationist, communist, but general psychopath

Jim.Jones, wow. I would guess that a lot of younger people don't know that the famous term "Kool Aid drinker" comes from Jonestown in Guyana. i told my 13 year old about it after he and his friends used the "Kool-Aid" term recently.

Butler also can lay claim to (off the top of my head)

Justin Moed - Indiana State Representative who recently was outed for sexting with the same chick who outed Anthony Wiener for sexting with her.
Jim Brainard - Mayor of Carmel, IN
