[EDITED THREAD TITLE, TO INCLUDE PHOTOS FROM ANY NCAA TOURNEY IN OUR 10 TEAMS' GREAT HISTORIES]

With March approaching, how about we celebrate the past decade and a half?

Try to keep each post focused on a single game. If you have multiple games, then do multiple posts.

Really looking forward to seeing some old school memories of Dwayne Wade, Jimmy Butler, David West, Kyle Korver, Jeff Green, et al...

I'm going to start:

Mach 18, 2005. Sitting in a bar in midtown Manhattan for the afternoon tip, waiting to see if my beloved fifth seeded Wildcats were for real. Taking on the 12 seeded New Mexico Lobos, led by future NBA player Danny Granger.

Nova came out hot in the first half, storming out to a 34-11 half time lead. But things got tighter in the second half. Game got real slow and the gap closed a bit. Never really was a cause for concern, but it was an ugly second half as UNM outscored Nova 36-21, which was not enough to overcome the first half deficit and Nova walked away with the 8 point win (55-47).

Now Villanova Assistant, Mike Nardi, led the way with 15 pts. Note the sweet tattoo on the right shoulder:

Randy didn't have the best shooting night, but still put up 14 pts

Image

Curtis' last full game with this crew of players. Curtis did a solid job on Granger

Kyle wearing #13:

Sugar Ray struggled going 1-12 from the field with only 4 pts.

Danny Granger put up 15 for the Lobos with a dozen boards for a double double

Although this thread might end up being a pain (why limit it to 15 years unless you're looking to annoy Johnnie and Friar fans?), i've approved it because the photos are great and i find it interesting, and since PC hasn't won a game in this time period, and I'm ok with that from a ball busting standpoint, i figure this could be a good thread.

So one thing is i wouldn't limit it to 15 years, so get ready for some Ernie and Marvin photos.

Ernie and Marvin? Bring it on!!

Anyway, I will go with another one:

March 20, 2005. At a bar in Manhattan, nervous as could be as the cats are about to take on the 4th seeded Florida Gators. The core of the 2006 and 2007 championship team was on the Florida roster, but Noah was just riding pine. This team was focused on Matt Walsh and David Lee.

Anyway, Nova with a gr8 first half. Offense clicking, 39 first half points. Curtis Sumpter only plays 10 minutes before a career changing ACL tear. Big scare. But the oft injured Jason Fraser (one of the top rated centers in the country along with Amare Staudamire in 2002) steps up and delivers the biggest game of his career. 21 points and 15 boards to go along with Randy's 18 and Kyle's 15. Nova held the lead in the second half and went on to the double digit win and a trip to the Dome to face the 1 seed UNC...

Allright Jason, Curtis is out, we need you...

Jason Fraser's signature game:

One of my favorite Kyle pictures. Still wearing the 13. It was around this game (and particularly the next game) when people started to realize that Kyle was not going to be on campus for the full four years

Nards:

Another tough game for Allan. 0 for 6 from the field, 7 points from the charity stripe. Played solid defense though

Curtis only played 10 minutes before the ACL tear

Victory!

I can't find any pics from SJU/Wisconsin in 2002, it's like not only were the wins that season were vacated but the season was wiped from the internet! hahaha

Edit*

Okay I found a bunch in Getty images.

yo, NJRedmen,

Caption your photos and give us some story line. Back story for the game, where you were when you watched it, etc...

Come on man. You're better than that.

I was at the game, working in the student life office and being drinking buddies with the dean of the staten island campus got me some fringe benefits. Me and 4 buddies took the bus down to DC with a bunch of geeks from the queens campus. Ended up staying in the hotel with the cheerleaders, band and mascot. We kept it close the first half and ended up letting the badgers pull away in the second half.

After the game we went out to some club and at the club were members of the four teams who played that night. It was a fun time, too bad we didn't win though. We would have been able to stay an extra day no charge with a ticket to the game and an extra night in the hotel.

Us Friar fans have to dig back to 1997 for an NCAA win. I'll go with Round 2 when 10 Seed PC upset Duke. I was working in Hartford at the time so watched the game in my parent's basement with my family.

With coach Pete Gillen and assistant Bobby Gonzalez leading the recruiting efforts, PC was stacked with NYC players: God Shammgod, Jamel Thomas, Derrick Brown, and Corey Wright. That team only went 7 deep, with Austin Croshere, Ruben Garces and Jason Murdock as the other three players seeing the floor.

Derrick Brown erupted for 33 points and 10 rebounds. Croshere had 21 and 10. Jamel Thomas 17 and 8. Shammgod with 12 points and 9 assists.

PC won 98-87 with Shammgod adding an exclamation point dunk in the closing minute.

No look pass from a trapped Thomas to Brown under the hoop (this is when I started thinking it might be our day)

I have to be honest. I was vehemently rooting against Bulter on both of those unbelievable runs to the National Championship game. Why? Pure, simple, and unadulterated ENVY. The Bulldogs not only broke that threshold of making the Final Four, they did it twice, AND made the National Championship game, and should have won it at least once. EVERYTHING XAVIER IS TRYING TO DO. I've been following Xavier recruiting for some time, and I remember us being neck and neck with you guys for this kid you might have heard of. One MATT HOWARD. Some pundits claimed we were even leading for his services for a significant part of his recruitment. I tend to think he and Hayward were the cornerstones of those great teams, and its pretty damn obvious that Mr. Howard made the correct choice college wise.

Obviously things have changed now, so if its not my Muskies busting through to the final weekend, I sincerely hope its Butler, or one of our other eight conference mates.

THREE inches more on that last second shot by Hayward and..................... :o
