Big East mid-season accolades

Player of the year:

1. Josh Hart
2. Kris Dunn
3. Roosevelt Jones
4. Isaiah Whitehead
5. Bilal Bentil
Let's face it, Kris Dunn is awesome, but stupid fouls and dumb turnovers have overshadowed his gr8ness. The former national player of the year candidate has played himself out of that debate (and so has valentine), and Kevin willard's pick for national player of the year now leads the big east race.

Rookie of the Year:

1. Edmond sumner
2. Mikal Bridges
3. Henry Ellenson
4. Haanif Cheatham
5. Jalen Brunson
What an amazing freshman class. Oooozes talent. Jalen Brunson and Ellenson are well below their projection on this list, yet they have been every bit as good as advertised. The other guys are just awesome.

Coach of they year:

1. Jay
2. Mack
Ask me two days ago and it would have been reversed. Cooley, Willard and holtman lurking, but still well beyond.

Homer pick, but you have to have McD in at least the top 5 for coach of the year. Picked 9th with a bunch of players that did not play last year, much less together, and they are getting better every game. One bad loss, and recruiting is stepping up faster than expected (see recruiting thread). Not saying coach of the year, but at least top 5.

Homer picks, how so?

The tide has turned in the player of the year debate. The media is rallying around josh.
Villaniva had the top frosh of in the country, and he's been very good. Yet I have him at #5, behind two marquette players. I also have two PC players on my POY list and do not include last yr's POY in the top five. And archi has been very good.
And for coach of the year, if xavier had won at home on Tuesday I would have had Mack at the top.

McDermott is in the 6-8 range with wojo, jt3 in COY voting. He hasn't screwed up too bad this yr, but what has he actually done? Rpi outside the top 100 and so,e bad losses. Don't see any reason for praise.

The media is rallying around Hart for BE POY? You mean Doug Gottlieb, who thrives on trolling almost as much as you do?

Dunn and Hart is turning out to be a gr8 race for POY. Hart has really emerged while Dunn has missed some games, but more disturbingly has spent too much time on the bench in key moments in foul trouble (MSU, SHU come to mind), and he has had some costly mistakes in games. Not saying he has been bad, but he is no longer a true contender for national player of the year and Hart has emerged as the favorite for Big East player of the year. Both are having gr8 seasons though.

This POY race reminds me a bit of 1996 when Kerry Kittles did not enter the draft and came back for another season and was Mr. All World. But by January another young player named Ray Allen started to pass him in the debate for player of the year. Not that Kerry was bad, his team remained in the top 5 most of the year and he was drafted in the lottery, but sometimes a new star emerges.

Personal opinion is you take into consideration the defensive schemes thrown at Dunn every game (and there is a reason this happens) and also the impact on the defensive end he makes, and he takes home the award. Time will tell as the season plays out.

On the Allen/Kittles topic, I was at the below game. Was a fantastic display of basketball in spurts by both players.

Hey, I'm a huge Kris Dunn fan. As likeable a player as there is anywhere. And plenty of time left for Dunn to turn things around.

Saturday is going to be a big day in the POY race. Hoping for a good battle between the two.

MVP: Josh Hart (Kris Dunn runner-up)
ROY: Edmond Sumner (Henry Ellenson runner-up)
COY: Jay Wright (Chris Mack runner-up)

1st team:
Kris Dunn
Ryan Arcidiacono
Josh Hart
Ben Bentil
Daniel Ochefu

2nd team:
Edmond Sumner
D'vauntes Smith-Rivera
Trevon Bluiett
Roosevelt Jones
James Farr

3rd team
Maurice Watson
Khadeen Carrington
Myke Henry
Isaiah Whitehead
Henry Ellenson

Did this pretty quickly, so there's a good chance I left someone off who deserves it.

There is no chance Hart is the POY over Dunn.

Dunn's numbers are far better and he's the best defensive player in the league. If you take Hart off of Nova they are still in first place in the Big East. If you take Dunn off Providence they are probably 2-4 or worse.

I would be interested to see if there is one Non-Nova fan that agrees with you guys.
