Hope they do not red shirt him. St Johns need him inside and it would be a great way for him to gain some experience

Looks like he's going to play next week against Fordham. Would have loved to have had him playing in Maui. Really short handed on this trip, down 5 guys today playing only 6 scholarship players. (3 Injured and 2 ineligible)

Good news for the Johnnies. SJU is another year or 2 away but they need all the help they can get right now and the season is still WAY too early to consider redshirting him. He will still have another 3 years to play after this so he still has plenty of time to contribute. With Lovett, Yakwe, Ponds, Owens, Mussini, Ellison, and so on the Johnnies will be OK. To be honest, I went to a few games this year (Rutgers and STAC) at Carnesecca and I have been impressed with Christian Jones as well, and he has another year too.

I am not too familiar with who the Johnnies have coming in in 2016 besides Ponds, I know they are going hard after Alkins who I think will be an NC State guy, but if Mullin pulls in another strong class in 2017, and the current roster remains eligible and there are no transfers, Johnnies will find themselves in good shape sooner than later.

I think until the NCAA does away with the graduate transfer situation, you're going to see fewer and fewer redshirts.

One thing- if he redshirted he may have been forced to sit out the first 6 games next year to correlate with the number of games he sat out this year before being eligible.

You said something all too true- assuming there's no transfers. It's such an epidemic in college basketball right now. With any team- you just are holding your breath in April that you aren't losing any key guys like that.
