Preview of Creighton's basketball practice facility which will open in June. Should help with recruiting.

What an annoying and lame name.

That seals it then. We should never have built it.

What is it you think of when you spout off crap like that? I'll bet money you never even clicked the link, just saw the name and opened your mouth.

I personally prefer things being named this way rather than for donors. Just my 0.02

Jeez...overreact much? He didn't say or even imply that it shouldn't have been built. He said he thought the name was annoying and lame.

I like Creighton fans. I really do. The ones I've interacted with seem to know basketball very, very well. For the most part, they are informed and they are intelligent. And they are nice people. These are all positive traits that Creighton fans should be proud of. However...Jay fans are some of the most sensitive, insecure people - as it relates to the basketball program - that I've ever come across. Maybe it's because the Jays were "mid-major" for all these years and feel the need to prove that they belong. No need to do that anymore. You're one of the big boys now. Take a deep breath. It'll be okay.

It's not the end of the world if someone finds the name "Championship Center" a little annoying or presumptuous. I, for one, have no problem with the name. I like it, and the facilities look amazing. But to have the above bitchy reaction to someone's personal taste regarding the name of a practice facility? Good Lord!!!!

theNEWbigeast,

On the other hand, the old saw --- If you don't have something nice to say about it, don't say anything at all --- would have been appropriate for aughnanure in this thread. It appears to be a very beautiful and utilitarian structure that will be new to one of our Big East member institutions. Regardless of what one thinks of its name, one can certainly agree that it will be an asset to the Creighton University family and to its basketball recruiting in the future. I doubt that any prospective recruit would be off-put by the name of a beautiful, state-of-the-art training/practice facility on the Creighton Campus.

That's true as well. But my point wasn't just about the Championship Center. It's a theme with Jay fans, which I don't understand. Creighton has a fantastic program, with a great history, and an even greater future. Yet, so many of the fans seem to be in constant "prove themselves" mode. I'm not trying to be confrontational. I probably failed there. I just hope the great Creighton fans can realize that it isn't necessary to take every comment, especially something as trivial as one person not liking the name of the practice facility, as if it is a declaration of war. You have to admit - most people would say that was an overreaction.

Well said. I think this goes for the majority of fanbases, not just Creighton fans.

I don't post much but I lurk often and most of the regular posters are generally well informed and reasonable. That being said, each team seems to have those posters who act as though you've committed some heinous act whenever you say something negative about them. I've noticed it a few times with Jay's fans but we all have em!

Most Creighton fans I encountered at MSG were great. There was this one lady sitting 10 rows behind me on Friday night that may have been the most obnoxious person I've ever sat near at a game that didn't use foul language.
