Ahmed Hill: Why he chose a BEast School

“They don’t have football, so everything is based on basketball,” Hill said. “They lined up for Madness, with kids lined up and screaming, ‘We want Med!’ ”

Not only was Marquette’s status as a basketball school an important trait for Hill, but it is also part of the Big East Conference.

Just posted this in the Recruiting section. Anyway, this is awesome. I saw a video of our incoming freshman who said the same thing (I think it was Jujuan Johnson). Something along the lines of "why Marquette" and the first thing out of his mouth was "well, the other schools I was looking at, they're football schools..."

Pretty sure that Creighton's recruit, Leon Gilmore, said a very similar thing when he committed. The "basketball only" line is going to be a big selling point, especially for kids who are sick of being secondary in status to football players in their high schools, communities, etc. I think we'll see that more and more, especially from midwestern kids who tend to come from areas where football has a much higher profile than it does in the northeast.
