Paint Touches has been mentioned on here a few times for their work and they've come out with another article. If you guys want to get to know who Buzz Williams is and what he's about read this. I know He's gotten some bad press for his dance on WVU's floor, the dance on the sidelines after DJO dunked on a ranked Louisville team, and the dance that he did after we beat Miami but if you read this perhaps you'll see him a bit different.

Since you've mentioned Buzz, how fearful are Marquette fans that he will bolt to Texas if they can Barnes?

Also, can/would Texas fire both a football coach and a basketball coach in the same academic year? If not, then I hope the FB team continues to struggle. We all know that Texas football is much more important than Texas basketball to the powers that be at UT, not to mention the fans.

Texas has always been a job Buzz has been linked to. Would hate to see Marquette lose him.

At this point I'm not too worried about Buzz leaving Marquette. First of all, Barnes had one bad season and I think people, journalists, are overreacting. He has been a great coach there and I think he would have to miss the NCAAs two more years to seriously be in trouble for his job. Secondly, Buzz has said that he will be at MU as long as we will have them. There has been some "drama" with Buzz and our AD, but I don't think it's anything serious enough to warrant him getting fired. Texas is where Buzz grew up and he loves the state, but he also loves Marquette and with our current players and incoming players we should serious contenders for the BE and possibly a national championship in a few years. I think he will be with us at least another 5 years and if he stays after that I could see it being long-term.

Yes. Any MU fan not worried is tricking themselves.

On the other hand, I think we'll find out this off-season if Buzz is here for the long run. Texas has always been the major worry.

Hoping you're right. Hopefully the fact that Buzz's kids have all grown up in Milwaukee will help.

That being said Barnes willvalmost assuredly will fired (unjustly imo, but it has been 6 years since they did anything relevant in college basketball). The team will be terrible, UT football failing is only putting more pressure and just look at what UCLA did. Texas believes they should be #2 in the Big 12 (esp this new Big XII) every year and there's too much talent in the state for them to accept the last 6 years (even though he is the most successful UT head coach EVER). I almost hope it just happens so we can find out if he will be our Mark Few.

Bah, speak for yourself. Some of us just don't worry about it. It's not worth wasting stress on, this kind of stuff has never done me any good. Hope he stays, he might not.

Buzz will stay if we stay on track for reaching an elite level again just like how Jim Calhoun stayed at UConn because he took them to elite status so quickly there wasn't a period of "I'll never win it all here so I should head to a blue blood"

Many MU fans are scared to death of Buzz leaving for one job--Texas. I for one am a little worried because where there's smoke there's fire. That is, I don't think these rumors came from nowhere. Thankfully, Texas is so high on football that the more they struggle, the more resources they will likely throw behind football. Thus, I root against Texas football and root for Texas basketball.

Worst-case scenario, Buzz leaves for Texas. I still think that MU will be fine. I saw something that stated that Duke spends the most amount of money on its college basketball team and Marquette is 2nd. We have the support of the BOT (Doc Rivers!) and I think the new president as well (at least I hope that he is a hoops fan). So even if he does leave, I think MU (ie, BOT) sees the value of having a nationally-relevant hoops program (profit, school spirit, and especially alum donations) and will work hard to ensure that we maintain our success.

I couldn't find the link on Duke #1 Marquette #2, but here is a different link showing basically the same result

Every school has concerns about a coach leaving for one reason or another. There have been several rumors in the past few years about Calipari and Coach K leaving their schools for the NBA, so everyone worries. I really only believe it is a problem if a school got lucky with the coach in the first place. If a school has a good administration though that values athletics as a recruiting and marketing tool for potential students then it likely won't be much of a problem. Marquette is a huge program, they would not have any trouble getting several good candidates lined up the minute Buzz left.
