Since it's the slow offseason, here are the Big East Rankings from Forbes which ranked 650 schools:

26 Georgetown
79 Villanova
134 Creighton
151 Providence
176 Marquette
237 Xavier
286 St. John's
303 Butler
312 DePaul
397 Seton Hall

Methodology is somewhat suspect I think but not too shabby for the Big East.

I think they did an ok job overall for what it is (comparing schools like Ohio State and Davidson is hardly apples to apples) but any list that has Miami (OH), St. Johns of Maryland, and Drake ranked above Marquette definitely has some issues with methodology.

This is very different than the more widely used US News and world report which has marquette at 83 compared to 176 what a huge difference in rank.

Keep in mind though that the Forbes rankings lists ALL colleges together (big and small) while the US News rankings splits them up into categories such as "national", "masters" and "liberal arts" etc....

Miami OH is a pretty great school though and Drake matches very well with the other Big East schools. But Lawrence College, James Madison, and Hendrix? Come on.

Marquette and St. Louis got hit pretty hard here. Going from top 100 to 176 and 206. Seems uber-small lib arts schools and the "regional" ranked schools from USNWR got a lot of respect. DePaul at 300+ also seems ridiculous.

I'm not saying they're not good schools, in fact I strongly considered Drake as a possible school. I am very familiar with their strengths and I liked them very much as a school. I picked Marquette because, after doing the research, I found it to be a better option. It's not overly important in any event. Just one more list, you look around enough and you'll find one that puts your school where you want it.

Thankfully USNWR has become, though probably unjustifiably, the ranking du jour of colleges.

Seton Hall: US News #131, Forbes #397
Yes, the methodology is suspect to say the least. RateMyProfessor.com counts for 15%?
I've heard that no one pays attention to the Forbes survey, but that may just be coming fr/ folks whose school got blasted :?
