Just stop it already. UConn is a 0% chance and VCU is probably <5%.

Since you're handicapping it, who are the leaders?

UConn

UConn is hardly the leader. They aren't even remotely in the contest. they would need to drop their football team to FCS to have any shot- and they aren't doing that. Staying football only in AAC is no option- the AAC isn't stupid there- there would be a no win situation for the AAC. Dropping to MAC or SBC is no option at all for UConn.

The real leader is "no expansion".

If there was an expansion, you would want to add to the top of the league. So you want a program comparable to GTown, Nova, and Marquette.

UConn is really the only target in that category. And there are obvious barriers with UConn, but it is not impossible.

St Louis, Dayton, VCU, Richmond, Valpo, Wichita State, Gonzaga, St Marys, St Francis, St Joes, Loyola, Albany, Stony Brook, Binghamton, UBuff... They don't make the cut.

There's next to no chance that UConn will ever be in the new Big East. For football they won't kill their program. They just won't. Not when they are trying to get into the ACC or Big Ten.

UConn won't kill football?

I think NBE announces expansion before March 1 adding Dayton and SLU

So.... you're saying there is a chance!

There is no Big East requirement that a team kills FBS football to be considered. Only paranoid opinions on the subject.

I think first off that yes, there would be a Big East requirement to kill FBS football to be considered.

Even if there weren't a Big East requirement to kill FBS football, UConn won't be willing to drop their football from the AAC down to the MAC/CUSA/SBC to put their basketball in the Big East. The AAC won't allow UConn to remain in the conference for football only. That is as sure of a thing as there is in realignment.

Also- there's not enough of a difference between the AAC and the Big East- to just blow up their football program. Especially considering if they did blow up their football program- they would have no chance to get into the Big Ten/ACC.

And I'm sorry tis isn't a paranoid opinion. I think if you ask just about anyone on here they would say that UConn won't do what it takes to get in the Big East.

This conference exists because of the chaos and unpredictability created by FBS football (and the diluted product created by adding the likes of Tulane). There is no way that within the first years of creating the conference the presidents will be okay with adding a school who has an FBS team. Now, memories can be short, so a decade from now? Sure, that mistake could be made.
