Nova might not be involved with all their other obligations. I'd say 2 eastern and 1 midwestern because the return games will be in NYC. Look for creighton being involved for it's well traveled fan base. Prob Gtown and either SJU or Seton Hall.

Yes way. Baylor and Oregon are playing in both MBB & WBB in the PAC-Big 12 version of this challenge. It's also been reported by CT media that UCONN MBB is unlikely to participate in the 2021-2022 Gavitt Games/Big 12 Challenge because participants are locked in a few years out. Finally, our AD mentioned last year that he was working on a MBB/WBB doubleheader in NYC.

Don't hold your breathe. BTW why do UConn fans always think they are going to get everything? haha

Get everything? No. I just said UCONN MBB won't be involved in the Gavitt Games or Big 12 Challenge. You really think UCONN MBB will be locked out of all 3 challenges or that UCONN WBB won't be the pick for the women's game?

Now that's a haha moment.

Depends on the reasoning. I recall reading UConn that was left out of the other two challenges because, though they hadn't been announced yet, match-ups were determined prior to UConn joining. If this also had match-ups already agreed upon (and perhaps contracted? not really sure how it works), they may be left out again.

Personally, I would like to see them included but depending on how scheduling these things works it just may not be possible (or worth of the effort of rescheduling / removing someone else) for this yer.

Would be pretty weird if UConn is left out of the Big Ten/XII challenges for 2 years. You'd think given their brand all 3 conferences and the networks would try to make this work regardless of contractual obligations. Let's say in 2021-22 for instance there is a DePaul vs WVU game planned. Who, besides DePaul perhaps, would object to replacing DePaul with UConn?

That said, I'd be shocked if the Pac 12 challenge doesn't include UConn. That's pretty much a guarantee at this point, especially with rumors that UConn will be left out of our other challenges for 2 years.

What does everything think about the future of the Gavitt Games? Do you think the Big Ten/Big East extend it, or decide to go their separate ways? If extended, does the format expand to more than eight games, now that UConn is on-board?

Due to the geographic overlap, as well as the abilities for the all of the schools to pull from the similar regions, I believe it will get extended and expanded (to ten teams).

It's not even about them not being included but no way they get both their mens and womens teams involved. It cuts down on the different fan bases having an interest to go in person when the games are back east.

I agree with you there. It gets extended and expanded by at least one game.

I don't think it will be since conferences moved to 20 games. It should be, especially given the geographical footprint of each conference, but just a hunch. I think a couple B1G schools like Michigan St won't want to be locked into more obligations and thus it'll be discontinued. Even some Big East teams like Nova might want more flexibility, though I doubt they'd object unlike a MSU. The Big East would be content knowing we have the Big XII challenge and now half a Pac 12 challenge apparently.

That said, Coronavirus might have changed things. I think schools will be looking into more local match ups.

UConn women actually have a legit fan base and they don't completely overlap with the men's fan base. They're one of probably 2 or 3 women's teams in the country which generate any money. I couldn't even tell you who the other ones are, just assume there must a couple others. No other Big East women's fan base would travel in any meaningful number. It should be UConn men and women playing, especially if they are left out of the other challenges.

Let's be honest here, for every 1 online post about St. John's women's team there are probably 500 for our men's team. For UConn over at The Boneyard, the men's team forum has 1.1 million posts while the women's has 0.9 million posts. Night and day vs Redmen.

When did I say the womens team would be left out?
