one of the most negative UConn threads was started by a st johns fan. Ive seen a Villanova fan also cutting on UConn on here as well. I dont see a UConn/PC feud. I dont hate them, in fact i've actually had some pretty positive things to say about them as has Bill Marsh who also is a PC fan.

Maybe more PC fans responded to the question because they are more likely to have contact with UConn fans? Easy road trips for both fan bases and also live in same region. Likely to work together, live near each other etc. just a thought

Such an easy question to answer.

The vast majority of their fans are insecure dbags. They picked it up from Jim Calhoun apparently.

Honestly what secure person starts a self flagellating thread like this.

It might as well be titled, "why do you hate me so much"

Surprise, surprise...another salty Providence fan. UCONN is brought up often on this board. Look no farther than the "AAC and UCONN denial" or "Conference of the Americas....one bid" threads. It's too bad many Friar fans here can't have a discussion without hurling personal insults.

You asked a question, I answered it honestly, you took it personally and proved my point.

Hopefully you have gotten the answers you need in order to be a whole person now run along back to your AAC board if there is one where you would no doubt get the same answers to the same question if any of the schools were within 500 miles of the nutbag state.

Can't we all just get a long?? I have a lot of respect for the Friars and while some Connecticut fans can be dbags, the majority of us aren't like that. especially those that love hoops. But again, if you are going to the-boneyard to post about P.C hoops don't expect a positive response from everyone. Especially when our Huskies aren't exactly doing their best...

There is clearly a lot of animosity towards the AAC (some well deserved), but I'm surprised how much of it is towards UCONN. While we did ultimately jump ship and join the ranks of FBS football, to my knowledge, UCONN maintained a favorable relationship with the C7 upon our break-up.

The UCONN fanbase is not happy right now. I'm a huge UCONN fan (and yes, Men's and Women's hoops take precedence for me), but I'm a true fan that loves all things/all sports UCONN. I'm very happy to have a series with Georgetown and hope that the Villanova talks come to fruition (along with other past conference mates). At the same time, UCONN has always strived to compete at the highest level in every sport. I don't fault my Huskies for trying to bring football to that level.

Lastly, I will say that I am glad to see the Big East doing well. I also hope that we can get some more OOC scheduling with your programs, as I think it is in the best interest of college basketball and fans across the country. Good luck this season and all the best.

HuskyU,
No sane person could blame UConn for wanting to be in the B10, B12 or ACC. I certainly feel none. As I do not think you will be admitted to any of those conferences in the near future if at all I would like to say I for one would welcome you to the BE anytime and under almost any conditions.

Timing is everything....

When PC hired Rick Pitino, the other hot coach with New England roots was Jim Calhoun. Pitino caught caught lightning in a bottle and took PC to the '87 Final Four. Calhoun started slowly and built a juggernaut. Calhoun would have jumped at the PC job at the time that Pitino took it. He was also a loyal life long NE guy.It would have been interesting to see what he would have built at PC but he definitely would have stayed longer than Pitino.

A lot of it is jealousy I admit that freely. That being said a post on a BE board from a Husky fan asking why do you hate us is more than I can stand.

Perhaps I should have titled my thread "Why do you feel the need to post so much about UCONN on this board (considering how little UCONN matters/the dislike/how irrelevant the Huskies are in the AAC)."

My original point was that UCONN fans (who truly love UCONN basketball) miss what was the old Big East and don't have ill will towards any current Big East members. Our administration chose to go a different route (ie pursue football). I have zero ill will towards the current Big East members and wish we were still associated with schools that made basketball a top priority. But it is what it is, and UCONN will have to make best with its current situation. That is all.

Long post alert:

So, this has been repeated often on the board, but i'll write it again, regarding UConn and PC at least:

Providence designed and built the Big East. Obviously, most Friar fans like me are very proud of that fact.

In putting it together, these 4 schools were must-haves, or else the conference wouldn't have been created:
- Providence.
- Georgetown.
- St John's.
- Syracuse.

The other original 3 teams were not critical, but needed to be from important markets or at least fill a geographic gap:
- Boston College (2nd choice to Holy Cross).
- Seton Hall (2nd choice to Rutgers).
- Connecticut (geographical gap filler).

Luckily the next year:
- Villanova, the premier team in Philadelphia and the Eastern-8, joined. Huge get.

Then 2 years later, a nice get but not critical:
- Pitt, the best team in the Eastern-8 now that Villanova was gone, joined.

Anyway, UConn was always a great conference mate, typically with an awesome and knowledgeable fanbase (the older fans at least). They struggled in the 80's mostly, but did win the NIT in 89 I think it was. Anyway, they were the last team to get an NCAA bid out of the Big East. The had a great season in 90, losing in the Elite-8.

Then, once they won the national championship, a portion of their newer, younger fans became obnoxious. With these fans, several of whom i had to work with (2 still work in the office with me), they had no basketball knowledge about anything before 1999. As a comparison, Seton Hall fans (sure, i bumped into fewer Hall fans) were always great and never obnoxious even after their dominant 89 run plus their great success from then thru 94 or 95.

So they'd badger me about the Friars, and be completely ignorant of the fact we had made 2 Final Fours, plus an Elite-8 only two years prior to their 99 title. They didnt know who Dave Gavitt was. When Florida won back-to-back titles, they had no idea that Billy Donovan had played at Providence even when i repeatedly assured them that it was true.

So my attitude toward them would be if it wasnt for PC inviting UConn into the BE as a 7th team geographical gap filler, then they could never have possibly won the title. Instead they might be like Maine or URI or UMass (FF but cheated w Calipari) or Vermont, just a former run of the mill Yankee Conference team.

Anyway, that's where the annoyance comes in. I'm not asking them to genuflect at PC, but just stop being obnoxious and at least acknowledge that they were lucky that Gavitt picked them over Fairfield or the Iona Gaels or UMass to round out the original conference.

I totally rooted for them in the NCAA's while they were in the BE. i would totally let them join if they were to drop football.

Older UConn fans are great, the ones that remember the lean Karl Hobbs years. The younger fans can be pains.

It would be like if we added Duquesne next year, and then they sucked for 10 years, then after another 9 they manage to win a championship, and then their younger fans become impossible and don't know hoops history pre-2034, and they don't who Jay Wright is, and they bust Villanova fans' stones continuously even though you were rooting for the Dukes to win, and then Daniel Ochefu coaches Ole Miss to back to back titles but they have no idea that he was a Villanova alum and argue with you about it instead of taking 2 minutes and looking on the internet... that sort of thing...

Man, i talk too much.
Now get off my lawn.

Not sure that is 100% accurate based on reading the Boneyard once in a while. Some UConn fans do defend the BE while others bash it and hope for the day UConn is in a P5 and the P5 splits with the NCAA, leaving the BE out of the picture. Many don't believe we deserve the BE name, MSG, etc.

I grew up in central CT so I do follow the UConn team and situation. Ultimately I believe they will end up in a better conference situation.

As for academics that were discussed in this thread, UConn is actually quite difficult from an admissions standpoint now, especially for in state students.

UConn and Cincy can keep knocking on the door of the P5. Will anyone answer? Is anybody home?
