Huge wins for Marquette and for the Jays tonight. Both very much needed W's for both squads, especially Marquette since they got beat pretty good vs The Hall and Georgetown. CU really locked in defensively tonight and gave Georgetown fits towards the end. Mo had a BIG night going off for 27 points and I thought the unsung hero was Ronnie Harrell. Grabbed some key rebounds and hit a BIG 3 that really started Creighton's run in order to put the Hoyas away. In the Butler-DePaul game, first off, excellent job by Butler for grinding one out, Secondly, I really think that DePaul will end up having a season like Creighton did last year, they won't win many games but they'll steal one here and there, they'll give favored teams fits, and they'll play many of the teams close only to end up losing. That's just how I think the rest of the year will play out for them, we'll see.

I'd add Hegner's play to Harrell's. He didn't score many points, but his rebounding and D gave us a big lift. Really the entire bench performed well last night with both Hanson and Milliken doing nice work off the bench as well.

Marquette's four wins against "Football 5 + Big East" teams have been by a combined 9 points. The cardiac Warriors are at it again.

Beat LSU by 1
Beat Arizona State by 5 (in overtime)
Beat Wisconsin by 2
Beat Providence by 1

Also of note, none of those games were played at the Bradley Center.

Waiter: "Mr. McGuire, that is a cull lobster. Sometimes when the lobsters are in the tank, they fight. This one lost a claw."
Al McGuire: "Well then take this one away and bring me the winner."

No offense to our Marquette and Creighton friends, but what a disaster day in terms of NCAA. Projections for the big east.

Unfortunately Marquette and Creighton have already had the nails hammered in their coffins.

Had Marquette beat Georgetown I might have had a slim hope for them. But with their OOC SOS they don't have too realistic a chance to dance, even with their win last night. Just my opinion.

Creighton has no chance of dancing.

how was yesterday a disaster?
Providence still easily comfortably in of course.... seed maybe dinged by 1 but still not too bad.
Butler gets a very important win...

Marquette has a pulse now....

Creighton/Georgetown- going into the game-
Creighton was 10-5. needed 9 wins to make the tourney.
Georgetown was 9-5. Needed 9 wins to make the tourney.
So really the winner of that game would be the same status quite frankly.

If anything, yesterday was a GREAT day in getting more than 5 teams in the tourney.

Not to see the world through my blue and gold glasses too much, but MU didn't have the nail in their coffin with the losses to GTown and Hall. Are the Warriors back up off the mat right now? Sure. That being said, consider the following.

MU still has all four games remaining against DePaul and St. John's, who I think we can agree, are the two worst teams in the conference. MU still has two games remaining against Creighton, who you've admitted have no chance of dancing. Let's say MU goes 5-1 in those games (personally, I think the loss comes in Omaha).

MU also still has Georgetown at home (a team that MU showed they could play with in the 2nd half, and who has suffered several questionable losses). MU also still has Seton Hall away. A much worse MU team won away at Seton Hall last year. It's not inconceivable that MU wins both those games.

The remainder of the schedule is:
Villanova home and away
Butler home and away
Xavier home and away
Providence at home.

7 games. If MU wins only 2 of them (lose all your away games and split your home games), they will most likely be 21-10 (10-8 in the Big East), with 4 Top 50 wins, and depending on how results break, a few more Top 100 wins (Georgetown is #95, Wisconsin is #98. Creighton is #105, LSU is #116).

At that point, a win at the Garden could get them dancing. I wouldn't feel safe on Selection Sunday, but the Warriors would be in the conversation.

If our teams were all fringe NCAA participants I would agree. But that isn't the case. We pretty much have 4 a lock and 1-2 could squeeze their ways in. Its good for the locks to lose and take some beatings, it will prepare them for the intensity of the tourney.
