KenPom.com’s ranking of conferences, which is based on the average adjusted efficiency margin of a team expected to go .500 in conference play, had the Big East fifth last season. Thus far — and it’s still really early on this front, obviously — the league ranks third, one spot ahead of the ACC. Since the great schism of 2013, the Big East has ranked fifth, second, third, third and third.
So, yes. The modern Big East very much belongs in any discussion of the “power” conferences, however many power conferences you want to include. And if I may say so, college basketball fans should be happy about this. The Big East has proved, above all else, that you can be both a basketball-only conference and a power conference at the same time.
