And coaching changes like this at Butler have proven to not be a Game changer for the program. If anything it's elevated each time. The Miller situation was unusual and an anomaly. His personal health issues should have been better vetted. The ominous predictions of Butlers demise are hilarious.

I agree with this. I think Brandon Miller got unlucky as his roster at Butler was just not very good and not even Brad Stevens could have done much with it and Miller did recruit Martin and I believe Wideman also.

Miller the year he was there had a whopping 8 losses by 6 points or less. Are you telling me that Stevens couldn't have gotten like 4-5 more wins with some of his inbounds plays?

I just think that Butler would have won some more games with Stevens. They were 3-8 in games 6 points or less. 2-5 in 1 possession games. Started conference play 0-5 with 3 losses at home by a total of 11 points- all 3 in overtime.

and look at Kellen Dunham.... his offensive rating each year..
2013 with Stevens 115.2
2014 with Miller 101.9
2015 with Holtmann 117.0
2016 with Holtmann 118.2

how is that not Miller's responsibility?

Barry Collier in an interview with Bob Kravitz:
"The numbers I read (regarding what Butler paid Holtmann) are not accurate, but ultimately, I'd like to have the problem of lots of wins and whatever comes with that."

As already mentioned, Holtmann was set to make $1.9M this season, with Butler willing to go up to $2.6M to keep him. So the 'Holtmann had to leave, OSU tripled his salary!' narrative is something started by his agent.

Part of that can be tied to the fact that Butler had no offense that year outside of Dunham and Marshall. After that year, defenses really shifted their focus to stopping Rosey.

Chris Holtmann is off to a rough start at Ohio State.

Dane Goodwin elaborates on why he picked Notre Dame over Ohio State – Bucknuts/247 Sports – July 6, 2017
From the moment he made a splash at Ohio State’s team basketball camp three years ago, Upper Arlington sharpshooter Dane Goodwin seemed preordained to end up a Buckeye.

Then-OSU head coach Thad Matta offered Goodwin before he even played a minute of varsity basketball at UA, which at about two miles away may be the closest high school in proximity to OSU’s palatial Schottenstein Center. Goodwin accepted on Dec. 1, 2014, and was faithfully an OSU commit for 2-1/2 years.

Matta was summarily fired by athletic director Gene Smith on June 5th. That opened the door for other schools to come after him. He made official visits to Notre Dame, Villanova, and Ohio State in the weeks that followed – just as OSU brought Butler’s Chris Holtmann on board as its new coach.

The 6-6 Goodwin announced on Twitter Wednesday night that he was “proud to announce I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at the University of Notre Dame.” Goodwin has seen his national ranking move from the 150 range as high as 91st in the 247 Sports Composite. He is the nation’s No. 21 shooting guard and No. 4 prospect in the state of Ohio in those rankings.

Player defections have left the Buckeyes with just eight scholarship players going into the 2017-18 school year. OSU has no fewer than seven open scholarships for potential 2018 signees.

Dane Goodwin was among three commitments for 2018 that Matta had secured at one point. But Cincinnati Princeton’s Darius Bazley de-committed in April and ultimately verbaled to Syracuse this past weekend. Versailles’ Justin Ahrens de-committed after Matta’s firing. The new OSU staff did not make a play for Bazley and it’s unclear where they stand with Ahrens as well.

Vanderbilt offers Ohio shooter Justin Ahrens – Vanderbilt/247 Sports – July 3, 2017
Vanderbilt continues to target 2018 talent as the Commodores became the newest offer for Versailles (Ohio) small forward Justin Ahrens on Monday. The four-star also secured an offer from Virginia Tech earlier in the day. The Commodore offer comes a few days after Ahrens made an unofficial visit to the school to meet with head coach Bryce Drew and his staff. Ahrens has also taken visits to Virginia Tech and North Carolina State over the past month.

The 6-5, 181-pound wing has seen a number of schools enter the picture over the past month since the Ahrens decided to back off of his commitment to Ohio State a day after Thad Matta stepped down as head coach. Vanderbilt has been involved however since last spring due to assistant and Ohio native Jake Diebler's familiarity with the all-state performer.

Ahrens currently holds offers from Dayton, Duquesne, Miami of Ohio, Ohio State, St. Louis, Texas A&M, Toledo, Virginia Tech, among others, and is also receiving attention from programs like Clemson, Florida, Illinois, Michigan State, Northwestern, Purdue, Texas, and Xavier.

Ohio State has just eight scholarship players on their roster for next year. They just released Derek Funderburk (redshirt, former 4-star) and Braxton Beverley decommitted.

Holtmann really only has two years after this one to right the ship. Invariably, Ohio State will fail next year. Looking at a 10th-place finish at best. Unfortunately, you wonder at this point if Holt might just turn into Todd Lickliter 2.0.

Another bad day for Chris Holtmann, whose reported # 1 target in the Class of 2018 Dwayne Cohill just committed to Dayton. Cohill is the first prospect to pick Dayton over Ohio State since Don Donoher was the Flyers’ coach.

Dwayne Cohill, Jerome Hunter get offers from Chris Holtmann's new Ohio State basketball staff - Cleveland.com - June 15, 2017 at 6:00 AM
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Two of Ohio's best players in the class of 2018 have received Ohio State basketball offers ... again. Holy Name guard Dwayne Cohill and Pickerington North forward Jerome Hunter were offered by Chris Holtmann's new Buckeyes staff on Wednesday night. If you feel like you've heard this news before, it's because Cohill and Hunter were already Ohio State targets with offers. They were also targets of Holtmann's at Butler.

Dwayne Cohill is a four-star prospect rated the No. 60 player in the country, and the No. 3 combo guard in the class. Jerome Hunter, also a four-star, is the No. 109 player in the country and No. 30 small forward in the class.

OHIO STATE HOOPS TARGET DWAYNE COHILL COMMITS TO DAYTON - ElevenWarriors.com - September 11, 2017 at 6:54 pm
Chris Holtmann has missed out on another in-state recruit.

2018 guard Dwayne Cohill out of Holy Name High School in Cleveland announced his commitment to the University of Dayton on Monday night. Cohill was considered one of Ohio State's top targets in the 2018 class. He took an official visit to Dayton on Sept. 8, and it took just three days for him to announce his commitment. Cohill had scheduled his official visit to Columbus for September 23rd.

NEWS 4-star G Dwayne Cohill commits to Dayton - FanRagSports - September 11, 2017
First-year Dayton head coach Anthony Grant landed his first verbal commitment in the Class of 2018 Monday, and it’s a big one for the program. Dwayne Cohill, a 6-foot-3, 4-star guard, announced via Twitter that he’s decided to attend college in his home state, picking Dayton over programs such as Ohio State, Penn State, Pitt, Texas, West Virginia, UNLV, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech, and Clemson.

Cohill was one of two highly regarded in-state prospects offered a scholarship by Ohio State head coach Chris Holtmann shortly after his arrival in Columbus, but in the end he was one of many high-major head coaches who were unable to sway the 4-star combo guard. Cohill had also scheduled official visits to Ohio State, Vanderbilt, and Virginia Tech. But with his decision to commit now, those planned visits are likely off the table.

When it rains in Columbus, it pours:

Torrence Watson latest recruit to decommit from Ohio State – ESPN - August 28, 2017
Just six weeks after committing to Ohio State, ESPN 100 shooting guard Torrence Watson has decommitted from the Buckeyes and is reopening his recruitment.

Watson was Ohio State's lone commitment in the 2018 class, as Darius Bazley, Dane Goodwin and Justin Ahrens also all decommitted in the spring.

Bazley reopened his recruitment prior to Thad Matta's departure, while Goodwin and Ahrens decommitted shortly after.

The 6-foot-5 shooting guard is a native of St. Louis and attends Whitfield School (Missouri). Missouri and Saint Louis were among the schools to offer Watson before he committed to Chris Holtmann and Ohio State in early July.

Whitfield standout Watson commits to Mizzou basketball – STLtoday - September 9, 2017
COLUMBIA, MO. - Whitfield School shooting guard Torrence Watson, the area's top scorer last season, committed to Ohio State this summer, changed his mind last month and now has a new destination. The four-star prospect has committed to Missouri's 2018 class, he announced Friday on Twitter.

Aaron Henry commits to Michigan State - Evan Daniels, Scout.com – September 11, 2017
2018 recruit Aaron Henry verbally committed to Michigan State on Monday, he told Scout. "I have decided to commit to Michigan State," said Henry via text message. Henry's commitment to Tom Izzo comes just a day after returning from an official visit to Michigan State's campus. Henry picked the Spartans over Ohio State and Xavier.

Small forward Aaron Henry verbally committed to the Spartans, as first reported by Evan Daniels of Scout. His Ben Davis (Indianapolis) High coach, Mark James, confirmed the decision before Henry announced his commitment to Twitter on Monday afternoon. Henry is a 3-star prospect in the 247Sports composite rankings and the 154th-ranked recruit in the class. The 6-foot-5, 210 pound forward picked Tom Izzo’s program over Ohio State, Xavier, Illinois, and Butler. He took an official visit to East Lansing over the weekend.
