Another thread devolving into who has the bigger...

Bottom line: none of us will know who's class is better for any BE program for another 4 years. For Nova fans think about the hype of Dom Cheek and balance that vs the (non) hype of Darrun Hilliard. One a McD's AA and the other recruitment was marked by everyone questioning if Jay had lost his touch b/c DH was so far below the radar. One a 4 yr starter now in the NBA, the other encouraged to leave the program after 3 lackluster years. Instead of arguing about "futures" let's just let it happen and then debate later. Deal?

Agreed Gumby. I don't want this thread to turn into another SJU vs Villanova pissing match. I don't want other fans to be discouraged to post here because the thread turns into a sh!tshow. I think this is a great thread and I hope to read more about the recruits the Big East has coming in.

Again, great get by Creighton, and hoping to read about Rawle Alkins committing to St. John's in this thread sometime soon!

I'd forget about Rawle. He's not coming to St. John's

Really? Just a hunch or have you heard things? FWIW, all recent 24/7 Crystal Ball predictions point towards St. John's. I have said it before but I have heard Rawle going to school in North Carolina has only helped St. John's chances.

A week ago I was confident. One of St. John's beat writers tweeted about Rawle possibly having eligibility problems, and Rawle blocked this guy (Zach Braziller) on Twitter.

What happened next was immature on Zachs part, he went on a bit of a Twitter rant about Rawle being the first athlete to block him, and then he tweeted that Rawle is receiving improper benefits from coaches. He tweeted "Rawle how'd you pay for the Knicks-Warriors court side tickets" or something along those lines.

So after that, Rawles cousin responds and says on Twitter something like "this is why kids don't wanna put on for NYC anymore, the fan base is nonexistent" and Rawle retweeted it. After that some insiders on St. John's boards suggested fans should move on from Rawle, they are sensing it's over. It is a mess.

I expect St. John's to get a fifth year grad transfer to get an extra guard and we should be alright next year. Then the 2017 class is looking good already (no commits, but we have established good relationships with like a dozen really good kids) and if that class pans out like I think it will that year we should be able to really compete for a spot in the dance.

Wow man. I don't really follow Zach B but a lot of my friends who are St. John's fans mention him a lot. He sounds like a big baby to me. I can't believe a guy who is looking to gain respect as a sports writer in NYC, especially a guy who wants to be a go-to source for SJU hoops would do that. I think he gained some traction with Lavin, but after Lavin left he lost all real connections to SJU hoops. Doesn't look like Mullin is going to give the guy any respect any time soon. What a douche. Sorry to hear that but I am hoping Alkins won't make his decision based on some weasel on twitter.

He actually gained respect from fans cause he wasn't buying all of Lavins BS last year. When he kept saying "we are building a program here" when in fact he wasn't recruiting anyone. But then long after lavin was let go Zach kept taking shots at lavin. It became clear he hated the guy personally and it was just really unprofessional.

But back to Rawle. The crystal ball is now starting to trend to Arizona. Honestly, and I'll tell you what a lot of sju fans share this sentiment, we don't know if we want Rysheed Jordan 2.0. Honestly Rawle is good, very good, but I think Mullin wants build a program much like Jay Wright. He wants to recruit high quality kids on and off the floor. It's difficult situation because it's basically in Mullins job description to recruit the best kid from NYC every year, but sometimes it doesn't work out. Rawle went to prep in North Carolina, so I'd say we actually did get the best player in the city, Shamorie Ponds.

He must have deleted the twitter rant quickly because I never saw any of it. Rawles cousin sounds like a dbag though. Also word coming down he wont even be eligible this next year anyway. Who knows, recruiting is so dirty and immature. This is why I don't get the grown ups who kiss kids butts on twitter and beg them to come to their school.

BTW Zach B is a good writer and always has the deets. I don't know what happened here but he knows his stuff and is always in the loop.

If the beat reporter is preventing 5 star recruits from signing, that is a problem.

If thats the excuse then he wasn't really interested in coming. We're talking some tweets not a bad write up in the post here. Also most of us never saw the tweets so who knows.
