The A10's media deal is garbage. I mean, it's mind numbingly pathetic. The amount of money each school gets is low, and the exposure of the league is arguably lower. Just to give you an idea, I believe the Missouri Valley schools get twice as much money per school per year as the A10 currently gets. And, for two NYC teams to be playing and for the game to not even be on ANYWHERE other than the stream is kind of ridiculous.
I believe it states in their deal that they cannot play on primary networks. It's actually in the contract. In other words, NBC, ABC, or CBS cannot air the games. Not even the local stations. It has to be on NBC Sports or CBS Sports, which are premium channels that most people don't get or don't watch. The reason for this from the network's point of view is, I guess, to strong arm the fans into subscribing to the premium channels. I like a lot of the programs in that conference, but I would be hesitant to schedule them home and home. At the very least, I'd write it into the contract that the game must be made available on the first tier of the TV deal, meaning that it's one of the 14 games that's on ESPN, or no dice. They can either come play you at home so the game's on TV, or get a better TV deal, or just not play. The conference has some good programs that are in decent sized media markets. It makes no sense that their deal is so bad.
