34 isn't that much of an outlier. Maybe a bit high- but in the other 2 games they played- Marquette got 21 and 29 free throws in the games. Part of it was like I said yesterday- Marquette is one of the better teams at drawing fouls, and St John's was one of the worst teams in sending teams to the line. It's a bad mix...

One thing that could be interesting- and a major plus for the Big East..... Only the SEC had more free throw attempts/field goal attempts % in the power conferences this year. Maybe the refs did call it closer. 38.4%- which is actually a touch higher than the national average of 36.7%. The Big Ten and ACC were at the bottom of that, so you really wonder if the refs do call it like last night- if that becomes a major positive for the Big East- and a negative for the ACC.
