Most of you are over-hyping the need to keep BGSr as the reason that another coach did not accept the DePaul position. He easily could have been moved around on the coaching staff.

The DePaul job is a tough one as you might guess so most young coaches are not willing to risk their coaching career....except for maybe Howland who is old enough not to care. But he did not even come for an interview. Leitao might be the best fit at this very moment.

Yes, I would have preferred John Calipari but....

For those of us who are out of town and want to watch online CBS Sports Network. I THINK this link will work:

CPS coaches are an extremely vengeful tight knit bunch. I can't remember the whole story but I know Depaul got shut out from them before and so has UofI in the past. If they did throw out Garret sr it's more than likely he'd hold enough power to completely turn off an entire generation of city recruits from going to Depaul and Depaul has enough trouble keeping kids home without them being told by their coaches that they shouldn't go there.

But those players aren't going there now. Thats like saying if i fire this guy then the supermodels who aren't having sex with me will stop having sex with me.

They are going there; BGJr. Tommy Hamilton, Myke Henry (transferred from UofI), R. Stimage, A.Simpson are from Chicago. The top players have no interest in staying in Chicago. Robert Smith from Simeon was pretty upset when they hired OP over him. MUBoxer is right, they probably had to keep him to keep the local coaches happy.

Simpson isn't he's from N Chicago... sorry kind of a stickler about suburbs vs city because I grew up there. I forgot about the Smith thing I don't wanna be presumptuous but I wonder where Depaul would be if they had hired Smith. I'm sure they'd be hit with NCAA sanctions eventually but they'd probably be really darn good.

Not trying to be insulting, but why are DePaul and St. John's playing at low-major schools? I realize that they are both local, and maybe could be considered "rivalries," but in DePaul's case they play at least one low-major on their home court every season (@Drake coming up soon, @Chicago State and Loyola-Marymount last year,@ UW-Milwaukee and Illinois State the year before). Once again, not trying to be insulting, just wondering why not use some of that tv money to buy out these return games?
This is my opinion. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

I can't understanand why they're playing this game eiither.

On the other hand, road wins are a lot better than home wins when it comes to the RPI. Since each are weighted, a home win is worth .6 in the math, a road win 1.4. Them winning such a matchup will prop up their RPI more than a home win by a good piece.

One note: we play at Loyola Ill. this weekend; it's the second half of a Bracket Busters series from a zillion years ago that we never followed through with our road requirement. So no choice for us there but to get it over with.

Well we play Fordham every year and the last time we played them at Fordham was in 2010. Every once in a while you got to throw these schools a bone. Nova just played Saint Joe's on the road. The big cities on the east coast you have long "rivalries" with these schools that you have to play every year and in order to do that every few years you have to play them on the road. We usually play Fordham at MSG which no other smaller school gets. Heck DePaul doesn't even get to play at MSG. Seton Hall is a different case, we play them at Carnesecca to keep their fans from showing up and to keep it as a true home court advantage.

That makes sense. We used to do a 4-for-1 with UW-Milwaukee, but cut it off because it wasn't competitive.
