Boston College-irrelevant

Syracuse-wins vacated
Rutgers-pick a transgression and they have been irrelevant for years.
Miami-dominated in football in the BEast. Now just another team in the watered done ACC.
Virginia Tech-see Miami

Now Louisville-prostitution etc.

The hits just keep coming!!!!!!!!!

The Beast is doing just fine without this nonsense. I cant say enough great things about the direction of our league. We are starting to scratch the surface of our recruiting. We will be at a superior level very soon. If St. John's does what I think they'll do, it will help the conference tremendously. Can't ignore NYC! Those St. John's, Georgetown, Nova, Marquette (Wojo) recruiting battles should be epic.

I think the statement about the recruiting is iffy at best. The P5 are going to get theirs at least as much as they've already gotten. Maybe we can get more top guys that have been going to AAC, A10, MWC, etc. type of schools.

Stop it with this shit that we can't out recruit P5 schools. If you said blue bloods then sure, but we recruit better than most of the P5.

Virginia Tech, Oregon, Oregon St, Washington, Washington St, Northwestern, Utah, Rutgers, BC, Miami, Florida St, Bama, Auburn, USC (east and west), Georgia, Georgia Tech, Texas Tech, TCU, Texas A&M, Vandy, Nebraska, Iowa, Penn St, Colorado, Clemson, Wake Forest, Arizona St, Minnesota, Cal, Ole Miss, Mississippi St, Purdue, Notre Dame......Are you saying all of these schools out recruit us? C'mon guy.

Oh and Ponds who we just signed had a final 3 of SJU, Providence and Creighton.

Great post and spot on. Besides teams like UNC, Duke, Kentucky and Kansas, the Big East can recruit with most of the P5 schools out there. And I am not pounding my chest here, God knows Villanova has lost a bunch of recruits to teams like UNC, Duke, and Kansas, but we have also stood toe to toe with some of these schools and won. Jalen Brunson and Omari Spellman in the last couple of years are proof of this.

Great post, except for the fact that right now of the ESPN top 10 recruiting classes for 2016, 2 are in that list that Redman had. Or in last years top 40- 15 of the schools on his list were in there- out of 34 schools. Big East had only 3 schools in the top 40. And you say well that's ESPN. Rivals composite had 14 of those schools on the list in the top 40- with 4 Big East schools...

Typical Stever post.

"Here's the thing" Stever... there are two types of recruiting. The first type is the Freshman one-and-done arms race. The teams involved in that right now are:
UK
Duke
KU
Ariz
UNC
Maryland
Maybe Cuse & Mich St. on the fringe.

The second is the recruit in the Top 100, develop and have those player excel as Jr's and Sr's. On Nova alone the roster is full of Top 100 players--Ochefu, Arch, Jenkins, Hart, Bridges, Booth, Brunson. The difference is UK and Duke are getting 1 or maybe 2 years out of their recruits and they move on. so using class rankings to definitively state that one team recruits better than another is fool's gold. They simply recruit differently.

You see these teams in the Top 10 every year, and looking back over 4 years you would think that these programs would dominate all the others every year. But they don't necessarily. Why? Because other programs like UCONN and Wisconson, and Nova and G'town bring 2-3 top 75 kids every year, develop them and then have them on their teams as mature seniors.

If guys like Jalen Reynolds, Daniel Ochefu, DSR, Dunham or Dunne were freshmen all of the BE schools would have recruiting classes in the Top 10 as well. So who really gives a sh!t? Let UK, KU and anyone else do what they do and we'll do what we do.

The bottom line...the BE is recruiting at a very high level. 2.5 years ago I remember your same doom and gloom about how the BE recruiting would eventually fall off. It hasn't. You're again proven wrong. Move on.

You can make the case that those programs do dominate the years. Last year those teams had 4 of the elite 8 and 3 of the final 4. Last 5 years- 8 of the 20 final 4 spots were by Kentucky, Kansas, Duke, Syracuse, and Michigan St. Maryland is coming on strong. Preseason top 5 all in your list- and 6 of the top 10.

Your point about Kentucky,Duke getting 1/2 years out of their players then them moving on. Very true. However, they are replacing top 10 guys with other top 10 guys- so no drop off.

Also- you are starting to see more teams get top recruits. Top recruit this year Ben Simmons went to LSU. #4 and #7 both went to Cal. #8 went to Miss St. I know Simmons is SEC preseason player of the year.

But you are starting also to see schools like Auburn doing well getting top 100 guys as well. It'll be interesting to see how things go in the next few years.

You're missing my point.

No one in the BE is going to aspire to be like UK or Duke. They are blue bloods. Expecting to win using that same blue print is obviously a bad idea. Those programs need to recruit differently. They field 5 Frosh studs; we try to compete with consistently balanced classes. March will determine which way is better. In '14 it was UCONN (carried by an AA Sr PG), last year Wisc was within a whisker with an AA Sr., but admittedly lost to talent and youth.

But to the point we are not comparing BE teams to just the blue bloods; we are comparing them to all of the other P5 schools (Indiana, Texas, Missouri, UCLA, VT, Miami, etc) You point to Auburn and LSU as examples of teams who you think are now going to be recruiting at a higher level than all the BE teams and point to data from one recruiting class. That's like saying Williard is the best recruiter in the BE b/c of the Whitehead/Delgado class. LSU has two one and done players on their roster. Are you expecting them to do that every year?

Here are the facts:

The 10 BE teams have brought in 38 Top 100 players over the last 4 recruiting classes. Or about 10 per year.. If there are 65 P5 schools, 10 BE schools and another 10 schools in mid-major conferences who always recruit at a high level (UCONN, VCU, Gonzaga, UNLV, etc), then there are roughly 85 schools competing for the top players. If you factor in that 10-15 players from thise blue blood programs bolt early for the NBA then maybe there are about 80-90 kids we're all really fighting over.
The BE has gotten clearly gotten their fair share. Do you disagree? Enough of this nonsense.

The 2013 class which is the first class of the new conference- was largely signed in November 2012, a month before the split. You can't take that really into account. That class had 11 players....

Also the number you had was 36 players. Take out 11 players and the true number so far is 25 in 3 years. Or 0.83 per school. if got 2 more- up to 0.9 per year.

You can't just take out the 10-15 blue blood players that are one and done.

Based on the numbers the last 3 years- since realignment- the Big East is looking like 5th- behind the ACC, SEC, Big Ten, and Pac 12. Those 4 all get 1 or more per school per year on average. Big East is slightly behind that.

Also, the number that is concerning- the number of P5 top 100 recruits...
2014 65
2015 83
2016 45 as of 3 weeks ago

You don't want 2015 to become the new normal. Remember- we only got 5 guys last year in the top 100. At least so far this year- we were up to 7 as of 3 weeks ago- so that's an improvement.

Also if you think Auburn for instance is 1 recruiting class- you're crazy.

right now p5 has 52 top 100 recruits. With also 26 guys left.
