Based on one weekend of summer league play where not every player has played yet the answers for Georgetown are Marcus Derrickson and Trey Mourning.

I thought you were an X fan?

Oh god, you got some nerve then talking about our recruiting. Who are you bringing in again? At least we can lose a recruiter like Slice and still get the best class in the conference.

milksteak wrote:"Breakout Players" is obviously highly subjective. You got guys like Mikhail Bridges, Phil Booth, Jalen Brunson and JP Macura -- all arguably household names -- that averaged single-digits in points last season. Then, you have guys like Eli Cain and Federico Mussini -- who both averaged over 10ppg last season -- but casual fans probably have no idea who they are.

JP Macurra is not even close to a household name. You gotta be around for a few years or be a lottery pick level player to be a household name. A freshman 6th man isn't t that level.

The 2015-2016 Johnnies were the worst team in New Big East history, and you wanna brag about recruiting...

Depends on the site you look at - 247's got Marquette as the best class in the conference. Also, recruiting is incredibly important, but even more important than that, Mullin's going to have to develop the guys on his roster. As "awful" as Butler's recruiting has been, they've tended to get quite a bit out of the talent they do recruit.

St. John's was impossibly young last year. While I think they could have been better than what they were, they did start playing more competitively at the end of the year. Whether or not that translates to an NCAA berth in the next couple of years remains to be seen.

He was Sixth Man of the Year and a Junior now. But obviously no player in the BE is a hpusehold name, unless. of course you follow the BE.

I like Derrickson a lot. Campbell took care of the ball last year. If he really can run the show with all that talent, GT finishes top 3.

I really like G'twn in the top half...but 3rd may be a stretch. If they come together as a team though...they could win the whole enchilada. Gonna be one great conference race: ol 'Nova, SH, Creighton, G'twn, lil Xavier, MAYBE even the Johnnies! ;)

Overall not a bad list. I agree Gates will have a big impact this year but not quite sure I include him because I still think his minutes/overall role will limit him from having a huge breakout. A lot of his value will come from his versatility and non-stats related things this year. Following year (after Blueitt leaves) will be his real breakout I think.

I have honestly seen nothing outside of a single game against Xavier that would lead me to believe Tre Campbell will break out. I really think he would have transferred down a level by now if JTIII actually recruited any other guards over the last few years. Also not sure I like the Mussini pick either. Don't hate his game but between Ponds and LoVett I don't see how his minutes and usage don't take a pretty sizable nosedive.

I think at least one of the big men for Creighton, Patton or Krampelj, will make some solid impressions this year as well after sitting out last year.

While I don't think Tre will break out either especially since it seems like juco transfer Mulmore is pretty good (again based on one weekend of summer league play). I will give Tre credit that it appears he's putting in a lot of work this offseason and clearly the opportunity is there. But yeah he took a real step back last year. Hopefully he bounces back, but I'm not expecting it.
