Current salaries of Coaches.

Pitino makes over 6 mil right now. Mack just a little over 1 mil. I'm sure there is a buy out clause which probably would be chump change for UL. I wouldn't hold it against him if he jumped ship. Money talks.

Last year they were 7 minutes away from an Elite-8.
X isnt a "flash in the pan" program. Theyre built for sustained success.

Cards fans are banking on:
- Mack's wife being from Louisville.
- Dez Wells, which is way way in the past.
- Money, which Xavier can match.
- Prestige, which Xavier already has, without the hookers.

Note also that Louisville fans have a history of turning on their coaches, as much as their fans make believe otherwise. The ran Denny Crum out of town, and were nipping at Pitino's heels in mid 2012 right around the time his staff turned up the hooker volume.

Mack's price tag would be very high, and at that point Gregg Marshall would move. The Texas job is already taken. Louisville can blow away Wichita with money, and Marshall wont have to drive to Peoria anymore.

The fact is, Louisville would be a step up from Xavier. Pretty much everyone accepts that. I'm not saying he's going to leave- but it's going to take a job like a Louisville for him to move.

Is anyone surprised that Stever is taking this stance and will hammer it constantly that louisville is bigger than X? How many schools that were bigger than Nova went after Jay? This isn't X in the A-10 anymore, this is X in the Big East which is a power conference with a ton of games on national TV. Not saying he definitely isn't moving but it's not like Louisville is head and shoulders above our schools.

Once again Louisville is in the ACC which is the lowest paid FB5 conference and at those schools even Louisville, money goes to FB first. As the gap grows between them and the other FB5 conferences more of that money will be allocated towards football to keep up with the SEC and B1G. That means less money for BBall. They will still put a lot into their program but it's not like they can write a blank check to get him.

If he's smart he uses UofL to get X to pay him more. Though UofL wouldn't offer him what Pitino gets. Pitino is getting HoF/national champion money. They might offer Mack half of that.

I see Louisville offering Mack like 3-4 million. It's one of the top bare minimum 10-12 programs in the country. Louisville is a job that can get a coach from another power program to move- it's that high on the pecking order.

And sorry Redman, but Louisville IS that high up on the pecking order..... This isn't Wake Forest or Tennessee or California. It's a program that's in the top 10 in almost every category in history- wins, winning pct, tourneys, final 4's, titles. A few years ago when ESPN did their top 50 programs in the last 50 years, Louisville was 6th; they've since won another title. Louisville is that strong.

Xavier is undeniably in the top tier of BE programs, now they have to start paying their head coach accordingly. 1M a year is less than a third of what Georgetown and Villanova pay their coaches. I'm not saying they should pay Mack that much today, but you have to show the wherewithal to get him into that league.

Kentucky wanted Jay and Jay respectfully declined. This isn't speculation, this isn't a rumor, this is a fact. Jay and Mack both have very good things going on at very good basketball schools. I think Mack realizes how good he has it. As some people have already said, you don't mess with happy.

Mack seriously considered Cal and Wake Forest a couple years ago. Obviously things were different than they are now, but Louisville is a top 10 job. I think if Mack goes anywhere Louisville would be one of the few places he would leave for. If he doesn't go to Louisville he will be at Xavier for a while.

Who the F said it was Wake Forest? Certainly not me so stop making chit up. We all know you will have every good coach leaving for another school because you are a negative Nancy. None of what you said has anything to do with what I posted. They aren't going to offer him 6 million. I doubt they offer anyone 6 million. Once again since you keep ignoring my points. LOUISVILLE IS GOING TO HAVE TO ALLOCATE MORE OF THEIR MONEY TO FOOTBALL TO KEEP UP WITH THE SEC AND B1G SCHOOLS. MONEY THAT USED TO GO TO BBALL WILL NOW HAVE TO GO TO FOOTBALL...EVEN AT A BASKETBALL SCHOOL LIKE LOUISVILLE FOOTBALL IS KING.

BTW They also turn on their coaches and even wanted Pitino gone before he won that national title.
