Here's the stat that indicts the AAC completely... Of the teams realistically vying for a bid (Hou, Cincy, Wich St. Memphis), not a single one of them have an OOC victory against another at large tourney team. NOT A SINGLE ONE--home, away, neutral. In fact the entire conference has 2: UConn over FLA and Temple over USC. That's it.

Ok, I'll concede that Houston might be a 9-10 seed on their own (solely based on two decent wins vs. So. Carolina and Washington--both not tourney teams BTW) but how can you justify a bid if, as a conference, you can't win any games vs. tourney teams. If the Cougars win the AAC Conf Tournament, this should be a 1 bid league.

Wichita has one over Oklahoma.

League has a lot of wins over teams that are on the bubble- teams like VCU, Tennessee, NC State, South Carolina, etc.

Oh no, don't talk like that.

Stever will be around shortly to correct you with tl;dr post from the selective far edges of the net, pointing out your many factual errors/s

Edit: This was posted before stever's response was cleared by mods and appeared, thankfully he kept his response short, this time. Non the less, I told you so.

Tulsa, erstwhile leader of the american as recently as last week, is ranked lower than Depaul (the lowest ranked team in our league) in overall adjusted efficiency

Creighton is tops in the conference in both NET and Kenpom. Still criminally underrated nationally.

Subject to Moderator approval, it is my intention to submit posts similar to this once every two weeks. Then, shortly before Selection Sunday in March, I will compile all of the DATA SETS in a single post and see if any conclusions or inferences can be drawn concerning One-day volatility as the Net Rankings progress from early February until mid-March from analysis of the posted DATA SETS.

DATA SET #2: One-day Volatility of NET Rankings: February 18 and 19, 2020

NET Rankings - Through Games Feb. 18 2020:
11 Creighton
15 Villanova
16 Seton Hall
19 Butler
23 Marquette
39 Xavier
45 Georgetown
58 Providence
66 St. John's
70 DePaul

Games Played on Wednesday February 19, 2020:

NET Rankings - Through Games Feb. 19 2020:
11 Creighton
13 Villanova
16 Seton Hall
18 Butler
23 Marquette
40 Xavier
51 Providence
54 Georgetown
65 St. John's
74 DePaul

Extrema: Providence +7 , Georgetown -9
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Observation: Last night Duke got curb-stomped at NC State 88-66. Duke had a NET Ranking of 6 both before and after the game, which indicates an absence of volatility. On the other hand, NC State’s NET Ranking improved from 60 to 52, an 8-point gain. If we look at this:

51 Providence +7
52 NC State +8
54 Georgetown -9

… it is reasonable to assume that the average volatility for a win or a loss is about ± 8 places for teams with a NET Ranking in the 50 to 55 range.

It is also reasonable to assume that the average volatility for a win or a loss is about ± 0 places for teams with a NET Ranking around 6.

Noting that there are 353 teams in NCAA Division I basketball, the median NET Ranking is 177, with 176 teams ranked better than the median and 176 teams ranked worse than the median.

Image

Percentile: the value below which a percentage of data falls.

(NET No. 6 Duke)/(353 teams) = .017; 1.0 - .017 = .983. Therefore Duke is in the 98th percentile.

(NET No. 53 Team)/(353 teams) = .150; 1.0 - .150 = .850. Therefore the NET No. 53 Team is in the 85th percentile.

(NET No. 177 Team)/(353 teams) = .500; 1.0 - .500 = .500. Therefore the NET No. 177 Team is in the 50th percentile.

As can be seen in the Normal Distribution (Bell) Curve above, the volatility at the two extreme ends of the curve can be expected to be minimal, as there are relatively few teams at the two extreme ends of the curve and an awful lot of teams between the 85th percentile and the 15th percentile, where the one-day volatility should be much greater.

The movement from yesterday for several of the BE teams is very telling... SHU had the best win of the night in beating Butler, albeit a nail-biter. They stayed at the same spot in the NET @ 16. Butler moves up 1 from 19 to 18. Nova pounds a team in the 70's, away, and moves up 2 spots from 15 to 13. Lesson is, win big on the road, or if you are going to lose, make it close.

Depaul is moving away from Q1 territory, they need another win badly.

Or to lose close games the rest of the way.
This is my opinion. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
