I’ll take the bet that it’s not in the top 3 worst P6 OOCs. GTown could still have a worse OOC than us which would mean we weren’t even the worst in the conference.
Once again it wasn’t ever going to be great without a preseason tourney and getting matched up with Rutgers in the Gavitt Games.
Also how is it better to have a tough schedule and more losses on the resume? I’ll take weak wins over tough loses if I want to make the tourney. Let’s have the toughest schedule every year and have 4-5 OOC loses every year! That’ll be great for the ‘ol resume!
It was a mistake having such tough schedules for a rebuilding program the last few years. We should have had this schedule the last two years and now have last years schedule.
Our AD is gone so who even knows who was in charge of scheduling this season. We might have had the assistant AD trying to set up games.

I'm sorry, but the bolded statement is just... it is clear you don't understand how RPI/SOS works. Weak wins are a bad thing. I've already shown twice how running the table against cupcakes HURT Georgetown and KSU last year significantly. Our schedule is currently projected worse than KSU's (SOS of 327).
GSJ made the schedule this year. Mullin's hire. This is 100% on the staff.
Once again, stop making excuses. We don't need to schedule Kentucky. Simply replacing the 4/5 300+ RPI cupcakes with literally anyone else would be a step up. Playing against a solid mid major like Iona would be great. Top 50/100 teams would be great too, but you're way oversimplifying the issue. The ENTIRE schedule is horrible. Last year we played only one RPI 300+ opponent, BTW. Why the hell are we scheduling Maryland Eastern Shore? 3rd worst team in the nation.
I'm nearly positive if we had this schedule last year, we'd have the worst schedule of ANY major conference team besides Georgetown. I think even Georgetown will be improving their schedule this year. So, good luck with that top 3 bet. I would actually love to bet real money on this.

Do you understand RPI, SOS, and signature wins? Our schedule gives us 1 chance to prove anything. If we beat Rutgers and Georgia Tech by 20 each everyone will say "so what?". The only way we can impress is by beating Duke at Duke which is the type of scenario only an idiot would arrange. Look at the other Big East OOC schedules...they have 4 or 5 chances to truly prove themselves nationally with good but beatable teams like Texas and Maryland. Even if we lose at Duke but win every other game OOC heading into conference play, we will need to dominate our way to 11 or 12 wins to be safely in the tourney most likely. Setting yourself up so you have to dominate a very strong conference to get to the tourney is again idiotic. If we would've scheduled some Wisconsin's, Notre Dame's, and Kansas State's sprinkled in with Duke and the cupcakes, then it gives us more margin for error. We could lose at Duke but win 1 of Wisconsin/Notre Dame/Kansas State giving us 1 signature win before conference play even starts. Our SOS and RPI would still be higher with all those losses vs. winning against nobodies.
Look at this guy! hahahahaha if we just get Wisconsin and Notre Dame on the schedule! Yeah okay guy, they are just lining up to play us! hahahahaha

NJ is also being a major hypocrite. The same thing he railed two Hoya fans about, in regards to their schedule last season, he's doing the very, exact thing they were doing a season ago. And, that's making up excuses (his responses are nearly similar). The Johnnies shouldn't have any excuse to put out this type of schedule, considering this is a team that should be making its way to the NCAA tournament.
Currently, the schedule is a poor one. Could it change with a team or two suprising for the better? Sure, that could happen and turn our more-than-pedestrian schedule into an average one. Currently constructed, it isn't even average.
One thing about me is I'm fair. For the most part, I'm generally going to call it the same way when it comes to my team, as I'll call it for another team. We have no business playing this type of schedule, and hopefully, we luck out with a couple teams overperforming. It was a mistake having such tough schedules for a rebuilding program the last few years. So, you're practically admitting this current schedule isn't any good, correct? Last season's schedule was good for last season's team, too.Our AD is gone so who even knows who was in charge of scheduling this season. We might have had the assistant AD trying to set up games.
St. Jean did set up the schedule. I'm sure Mullin had some input, but it was St. Jean doing the quarterbacking.
MullinMayhem wrote:I do agree with NJ that we should have scheduled easier the first 2 years and had last year's schedule this year. But the fact is that we have an abomination of an OOC schedule this year. It's a wide open year in the conference and everyone knew that for months and months. The one year when we can really break through nationally if Heron is eligible and we knew we'd need a strong OOC schedule to balance out a possibly much weaker conference with maybe 1 ranked team. It is not an exaggeration at all right now to say that fans would run this program better than staff. As sad as that sounds...it's true.
