Butler - Tougher. Any chance they play Florida twice?

Creighton - most likely tougher

DePaul - Funny I almost see them going 3-0 vs. Northwestern, ND, and BC.

Georgetown - Tougher

Marquette - Much tougher

Providence - Possibly tougher

Seton Hall - Tougher

St. John's - Weaker

Villanova - Tougher

Xavier - Tougher

Well we had probably the toughest in the conference last year so being weaker isn't a bad thing. We weren't able to be in a top notch pre-season tourny since we've been in the top 4 ones the last 4 years and we still have multiple P6 opponents and the chance to play the top of the A-10 or AAC not to mention a favorite to win the Ivy. It's not murders row but not a Georgetown cupcake schedule either. For those who want to talk about tough, how many of you are going to play in a place like Cameron Indoor this year?

We're ALL going to play @Hinkle this year...about equal I'd say. ;)

No. Our non-conference is awful. It's not one of the worst in history like Georgetown's last year, but it will be one of the worst for any team this year. Probably the worst for any major conference team. Don't see any reason to defend this atrocious schedule.

Please, thats a joke if you think it's even the same. Duke has lost just ONE OOC game at home in 30 years.

Anyone, especially SJ fans attempting to make light of our awful OOC schedule has lost their minds. It will be among the very worst in the country for a major conference program. It sets us up so that we can really only afford a loss to Duke and no other losses the entire OOC. After that, we will also have to likely win 11 or 12 conference games. Only 1 chance to win a big game and it's at Duke. Very stupid setup.

Hyperbole huh? Are you aware that currently we are only projected to play ONE top 100 team from last year? Maybe 2 if we play Temple rather than VCU? 4 teams higher than 300?

Last year we played 5 teams in the top 100. Only 1 higher than 300.

https://www.rumbleinthegarden.com/2018/ ... orgia-tech

This is CURRENTLY projected to be one of the worst for any major conference team. Could we get very lucky and teams like Rutgers, VCU/Temple, Cal, and Georgia Tech perform significantly better than last year? Sure. I'm just realistic and see this for what it is.

I posted this over at Redmen:

Based on last year's results, we are only projected to play one top 100 team (two if we play Temple rather than VCU). We also are projected to play four teams over 300.

I know we're all familiar with Georgetown's atrocious schedule from last year. No, our schedule is not as bad as their's. However, it is not significantly better.

Let's compare:

Georgetown OOC 2017-18:
SOS ranking: 351 (out of 351)
Top 100 Opponents: 1
300-351 Opponents: 5
Average Opponent: 265

St. John's (based on 2017-18 results):
SOS ranking: NA
Top 100 Opponents: 1 (or 2, depending on Legends)
300-351 Opponents: 4
Average Opponent: 211

So, St. John's schedule won't be as bad as Georgetown's historically awful schedule. We all knew that.

The problem is it won't be that much better. Here is the scary part:

Georgetown went 10-1 OOC last year and their OOC RPI was 179!

Even going 12-1 could be a bad thing. Going 12-1 could also mean no top 100 wins.

This really needs to be communicated with St. John's. They won't do anything about it, I know. But this is a genuine issue.

Unbelievable.

Some of that success is clearly Cameron...some of it is who they play OOC in Cameron. Their 3 good non-cons last year (Michigan State, Texas, and Florida) were all neutral site games. The year before they did play Michigan State in Durham. Just a quick review of the last 3 years, other than the MSU game the opponents are teams like Bryant, Elon, Utah Valley, Marist, William & Mary, Furman...you get the idea.

I agree that Cameron is tougher than Hinkle, particularly for a OOC game in which the opponent only plays there once every few years/decades. The environment plus talent on Duke has made it nearly impossible to win there...but the opponents they play OOC at Cameron is a factor in the streak, too.
