So? He's played more minutes than any other freshman in the league. he's not gonna lose consideration because he was benched for a few minutes against marquette. he's very good and is asked to do a lot for gtown. he and zegarowski will probably get the last two spots. the only other guy who will be considered is saddiq bey and he probably doesn't get enough usage to take the spot from those guys

McClung, Akinjo, and LeBlanc are all strong candidates for the BE Freshman team.

Hauser, Reeves, Zigaroski, Bey are the others in contention.

Just a heads up for you -

The game that you singled out here to knock Akinjo's abilities? He came off the bench and had 11 assists. Eleven.

Thanks for helping to make my point.

Which is a great number when you look at it in a bubble. He also was 2-11 from the field for 6 points that night. 2 for Eleven.

A lot of good freshman this year in the BE, some are going to pop next year (Quinerly, Swider, Bailey, Duke, LeBlanc, Nelson, etc.) on top of the ones getting love in this thread. Good times ahead!

Big East Freshman Players of the Week....

Hauser ......4
Akinjo.......2 (1 was first of second week against scrub teams)
McClung.....2
Reeves......2

Everybody else with 1.....

Akinjo has won 1 in conference......Missed that one.....

By these numbers he will make first team....

In my opinion he has been the single biggest problem in many of Georgetown's conference losses......He does have talent....But he needs to be reigned in.....I am assuming that is what Ewing is trying to do......He played much more under control against St. John's......

Reeves missed about seven weeks with the foot injury. He was averaging 14.2 points a game and shooting over 45 per cent from deep. I think he would have possibly been freshman of the week a few more times but we will never know.

Reeves was also freshman of the week three times in the first four weeks.

I will throw in my 2 cents worth for the All-Frosh team. Of course, this is with a number of games left to play and things could change. At this point, I think Hauser and Reeves are locks. I think McClung is close to a lock. He has had some splashy games that have garnered attention, but I think that it is important to look at the numbers of the non-locks for a better assessment of the players:

------------- PPG RPG APG TO FG% FT% 3P%
McClung---- 13.9 2.3 1.9 1.9 .418 .780 .301
Akinjo------ 13.4 2.7 5.4 3.5 .357 .815 .381
LeBlanc------ 9.5 7.6 1.2 1.2 .670 .681 .667
Zegarowski 10.7 3.7 3.2 1.8 .487 .771 .482
Bey----------- 7.8 4.8 1.0 0.8 .452 .613 .344

All "whatever" teams tend to go with scoring, so I think McClung will get the third spot based on that. If you look at the numbers though I think Zegarowski is a strong contender for the 3rd spot. I know my Creighton bias is showing, but I think that the numbers back this up. I know that McClung and Akinjo have higher scoring numbers, but their shooting percentages are much lower. Z is a perfect fit for the Creighton offense and, as the PG, makes things go for the team. That is why Creighton fans say they wouldn't trade him for any other freshman in the League. That doesn't mean the others aren't great players and they might have higher numbers as things move along. I would go with Hauser, Reeves, Zegarowski, McClung and LeBlanc. I would choose Leblanc over Akinjo at this point because of LeBlanc's efficiency on offense and his rebounding. They might choose six and all of them would be on the team. Bey doesn't have the numbers right now, but will be a great player for Nova. I think Hauser will be freshman of the year, although I also think that Reeves would be the choice if he hadn't been injured. Still plenty of games to go! I could also be missing someone else who is deserving, so I apologize for that.

Great post jfan.

Looks like six players get the honor. The past two years that was the size, and three years ago it was seven “due to a tie in the voting”.

I agree with Akinjo, Hauser, LeBlanc, McClung, Reeves, Zegarowski for the top six. Don’t mean to slight Bey, he’s good and looks like he may someday be very good, but not sure he will get the opportunities on a veteran team to put up higher numbers.

Lots of season to go.
