5 years ago was the C7 in disarray?
Marquette and Georgetown had just shared the regular season championship. Marquette would go on to the elite 8. Georgetown unfortuantely had to visit Dunk City.
Villanova had bounced back from a rough 2012 season to make the tourney in 2013- and were starting to bounce back- we all know how that bounce back would end.....
Providence had hired Cooley and had gone 9-9 in conference play in 2013, and made the QF of the NIT before losing to Baylor. I really think if the OBE had stuck together, Providence would have become a major factor there.
St John's had bounced back from their rough 2012 season(the Lavin cancer year) to make the NIT in 2013.
Seton Hall did struggle in 2013. But they were only a year removed from being a 1 seed in the NIT.
DePaul was well, DePaul.
I would say as a whole, the C7 was pretty strong. Not as strong at the top as in the late '00s where Georgetown and Nova both made final 4's- along with Marquette being a solid team- but 2013 had Providence and St John's both much stronger. So to me, I wouldn't say the C7 was in disarray in 2013. 3 NCAA teams(2 being top 3 seeds), and 2 NIT teams- out of 7 teams- isn't bad.
The conference 2nd-4th nationally each year. 5, 6, and 7 teams into the Dance consistently, out of 10 teams.
Nova 2 Nattys, 30+ wins 5 years running, 4 RS championships, 2 BETs
X an EE, a reg season championship and 28+ Ws a year
Butler another SS, a 2nd in conference and good NCAAs
Prov a BET Championship, 5 straight NCAAs
Seton Hall with a BET championship, and others with singular achievements

Yes, C7 bias but I'd have a hard time seeing why that wouldn't be true. Nova has established themselves as a blue blood and need to remain top 3. The other 4 are all sleeping giants (with the possible exception of DePaul) in major media markets with large alumni bases. Their ceiling are extremely high. As much as GTMO likes Creighton, it'd be bad for a team like them to be at the very top every year.
If you asked Fox right now who they would rather be #1 next year, Creighton or St. John's, does anybody here honestly believe they'd say Creighton?
Keep in mind, we've seen Nova fans pack the Garden the past couple years and really help attendance. Nova is close to the Garden, but SJU is right there. You're never going to have Creighton or Xavier fans turn out like that due to their locations.

I don't like this spot but given program prestige relative to market size it seems like it's accurate
