Great work! Very cool to see it all put together.

Even though that poster was being ignorant they are partly right. If Rutgers says yes, Seton Hall doesn't get the initial invite and winds up in the A-10 and who knows how the rest turns out. No PJ no NCG. Totally different path.

So "where would they be without the Big East invite?" The same thing could be asked of every school here. Would Seton Hall's history have been different without the invite? Of course. Maybe it would have been a disaster and they'd be in the MAAC right now. Or maybe they'd have done just fine (or even better) and received a later invite. Villanova, Xavier, Creighton, Butler, Marquette, and DePaul all didn't get Big East invites in 1979, but they're all here now and turned out just fine.

That poster was suggesting that SHU had no success prior to the formation of the Big East and was thus undeserving of the invite. While Seton Hall was certainly in a down spell post point shaving scandal at the time of the Big East formation, they certainly did have a prior history of success.

Not really, most of those schools weren't in the running in 1979 and if Rutgers was invited it's doubtful Seton Hall ever gets the invite even down the road.

The best part about that thread is Stever now arguing against GTown, you know his favorite team! Hahaha such a GTown fan he shits all over them on the other board.

Yeah, the C2 poster guy was basically saying Seton Hall was the equivalent of Saint Peter's or Sacred Heart. He had no freakin clue about The Hall. Of course I'm gonna defend my Pirate brothers...! Ironically a poster who always comes to the Big East's defense is named "RutgersGuy".

I guess i also showed up on Page 8 of that thread, defending Georgetown vs post-Wooden UCLA.

There was another thread over there saying Creighton never made a Sweet-16, when in fact they made three. Once again i had to waste time correcting these guys. Like a full time job.

I mean, i understand that they're outside of the Big East territory and orbit, and many are in southern football country, but they are often so separated from reality.

That's still just speculation, there are a lot of things that could have happened differently both for the school and the conference. If Rutgers accepts the bid, it boosts Penn State's odds of having it's bid accepted and now all of sudden this conference has the football split far earlier than 1991. It could've changed the entire history of the conference. Does the 91 football expansion happen? If so, VT and are less likely to leave for the ACC, meaning no 2005 expansion (sorry Marquette and DePaul). Maybe this keeps the "original" Big East Conference together (sorry Butler, Xavier, Creighton). Or, maybe it causes the breakup of the league a lot sooner.

The point is we don't know and really, it doesn't matter.
