It is well documented, reported on, and at least local (Chicago) public knowledge that Chicago HS Sports, especially basketball, is a recruiting nightmare, rife with landmines, snares, traps, payola, politics, buyouts, etc. Nothing is open, free, and easy in Chicago, nothing!
When Purnell was hired the AAU coaches, Mac Irwin and company (Mac Irwin Fire AAU), were in the mix for the same reasons. To supposedly reopen a recruiting pipeline of city players. Mac Irwin or one of the brothers were lobbying to be an assistant for Purnell and it didn't happen. That move, if it had become reality was to save DePaul, reopen recruiting of local stars, and revitalize the defunct program.Close one can of worms only to open another.
It will be an expensive and probably unethical set of criteria if an AAU or HS coach comes aboard. Is it worth the NCAA investigation to revive the DePaul Program?

Probably be on probation within 3 years too. If I'm DePaul and they get rid of JLP, I would look for a relatively young but established coach. Honestly, the guy who would kill it there (if he was fired at IU) would be Tom Crean. Knows the Midwest recruiting, is a great program salesman, and isn't afraid of a rebuild.
