Matt Velazquez – ‏@Matt_Velazquez

According to a source, redshirt junior guard Wally Ellenson is no longer part of the Marquette men's basketball team. Story coming. #

There is some chatter that an additional player may leave.

Really stupid move. You want lottery picks to be coming back years from now and hanging around the teams. Not pissing them off.

If this is what it takes to get us to who we were from 2002-2013 I'll sleep fine at night.

My theory is that if Henry had stayed Wally would have been on the team but since Henry left Wojo takes it out on Wally.

We call it "Spring Creaning" here in Indiana.

This whole thing is really bizarre.

I think the damage caused by this will far surpass the benefits of signing another player. You want Ellenson to be an ambassador for your program. Instead, they're going to alienate him and his family. I really don't get it.

On the PC boards it has been known as "Brizzing" for well over a decade. It was named after Leon Brisport, who some thought was Brizzed (I have no idea if he was) from PC after one season as a JUCO transfer. Interestingly Brisport went on to tear it up at Stony Brook for his final year.

Track scholarship may only be a partial, but the limitations on additional scholarships/grants/other aid that applies to football and basketball programs does not apply to track athletes. I believe Marquette could do the right thing and provide him with the equivalent of a full ride using other money along with his track scholarship. If they do, then I don't have a problem with it since he clearly would have contributed little next year. But, if they take that away and make him pony up $30Gs or so to finish out his degree, then that is BS and I hope MU loses every game next year because of it. -- On the other hand, little brother could easily help a brother out with the money he will be making in a few months time.

Terrible move by Wojo. I can't really imagine a backstory that would justify doing this (say if Henry guaranteed playing 2 years at MU). Like someone said, the negatives far outweigh any potential benefit, and it's just a completely shortsighted, dick move.

Of course, i can't stand Coach K and this he's a POS, so I'm not surprised that someone in his coaching tree would do this.

Really disappointing and I feel bad for Wally, but this isn't uncommon practice at all in NCAA basketball. Usually, however, the coach "encourages" one of the guys at the end of his bench to transfer, which then opens up a scholarship for a new recruit. I can't say I've heard of another scenario of the player just being straight kicked off the team for no good reason. It really looks like Marquette never had any interest in Wally as a player and only took him to help land Henry. I imagine that if there was any chance of Henry returning to school, Wally would still be on the team as well.

Is Wally getting his degree in May? He's been in college for 4 years, right?
