That's the one thing they for sure have.

Yeah. Money is not an issue for Louisville.

It's not one for X anymore either. Remember that the ACC is the lowest paid FB5 conference. Even in Louisville when it comes to handing out checks Basketball gets theirs AFTER FB is paid for.

Yeah, but the "apex that Xavier can get to" is a Top-5 ranked school and a National Championship contender. His recruiting at X is outstanding. X will be a perennial Top-25 ranked school in the foreseeable future. Plays in front of a full house of 10k every night.

If I were to guess, i'd say that Gregg Marshall would be Louisville's main target. A Wichita fan laughed that off, but it seems more plausible.

What candidates are there?
- Gregg Marshall.
- Masiello no.
- Ralph Willard is retiring from the UL bench, but would Kevin Willard be in the mix for people that don't jump deep into his negatives? Especially if the Hall makes an Elite-8 run?
- Drew from Valpo?
- Richard Pitino's star has fallen.
- Archie Miller?

I think its in play if Pitino leaves, Mack wife is from Louisville and he owns a lake house in Kentucky. I think its probably something he would consider heavily.

After the Dez Wells debacle, Cincy brawl which caused admin friction and fallout from roster turnover issues (missed recruiting classes/mary lyons leaving) they had, Mack finally has got X going so it would be hard for him to leave a team returning Trevon, Ed Sumner and JP Macura that is for sure.

Top 5 ranked school in a year with no top teams. That's what this year is- an abnormally bad year for the top teams.

Louisville is the kind of job that they can poach coaches from P6 level programs even. They aren't going to go after any of the guys you list....

The fact is that X is a Top-5 team, and their roster is stacked again next year.
Last year they were 7 minutes away from an Elite-8.
X isnt a "flash in the pan" program. Theyre built for sustained success.

Cards fans are banking on:
- Mack's wife being from Louisville.
- Dez Wells, which is way way in the past.
- Money, which Xavier can match.
- Prestige, which Xavier already has, without the hookers.

Note also that Louisville fans have a history of turning on their coaches, as much as their fans make believe otherwise. The ran Denny Crum out of town, and were nipping at Pitino's heels in mid 2012 right around the time his staff turned up the hooker volume.

Mack's price tag would be very high, and at that point Gregg Marshall would move. The Texas job is already taken. Louisville can blow away Wichita with money, and Marshall wont have to drive to Peoria anymore.

The fact is, Louisville would be a step up from Xavier. Pretty much everyone accepts that. I'm not saying he's going to leave- but it's going to take a job like a Louisville for him to move.

And if Chris Mack leaves Xavier for Louisville (or any other job)? So what?

Xavier is bigger than Chris Mack. It is a program, like so many of our Big East programs, that are built on history and consistent success. The program was not built by one coach. Xavier has had Mack, Sean Miller, Thad Matta, Skip Prosser, and Pete Gillen as its last five coaches. That is as impressive as any other program's five last coaches in the country. If/when Mack leaves Xavier, Xavier will replace him and continue winning and being successful.

Having said that, if Mack ever did make a move - Louisville would really be a perfect fit for him for a multitude of reasons, but to quote Jay Wright, "Why mess with happy?". But, Pitino is still there - and he isn't going to get fired. Only way the job opens is if Pitino resigns.

Totally agree with you about Mack and if he leaves for Louisville. So what?

I do feel like this time next week, we hear that Pitino is gone from Louisville.

No predictions on what Mack would do. But I don't think Louisville is going to part ways with Pitino. He has achieved so much there I think they owe it to him to ride out this whole ordeal with him and he leaves on his own terms.

Louisville is obviously a step up from the Cal, Wake Forest, Tennessee's of the world, but I just don't see it. Too much unknown at Louisville with the scandal going on.

Mack could stay at Xavier for the next 20 years and be one of the richest people in Cincinnati, where he and his wife and his have lived most of their lives. Louisville can wave all the money they want, but how much does he really need?

And like someone else mentioned with Macura, Myles Davis, Sumner, Bluiett, and (hopefully, but probably not) Jalen Reynolds back I'm not sure he would want to pass up the opportunity with a team like that.
