Also, might depend on the penalty handed to Louisville. If they get a multi-year post season ban then I could see them having trouble attracting a coach.
That's the one thing they for sure have.
Yeah. Money is not an issue for Louisville.

Yeah, but the "apex that Xavier can get to" is a Top-5 ranked school and a National Championship contender. His recruiting at X is outstanding. X will be a perennial Top-25 ranked school in the foreseeable future. Plays in front of a full house of 10k every night.
If I were to guess, i'd say that Gregg Marshall would be Louisville's main target. A Wichita fan laughed that off, but it seems more plausible.
What candidates are there?
- Gregg Marshall.
- Masiello no.
- Ralph Willard is retiring from the UL bench, but would Kevin Willard be in the mix for people that don't jump deep into his negatives? Especially if the Hall makes an Elite-8 run?
- Drew from Valpo?
- Richard Pitino's star has fallen.
- Archie Miller?

Last year they were 7 minutes away from an Elite-8.
X isnt a "flash in the pan" program. Theyre built for sustained success.
Cards fans are banking on:
- Mack's wife being from Louisville.
- Dez Wells, which is way way in the past.
- Money, which Xavier can match.
- Prestige, which Xavier already has, without the hookers.
Note also that Louisville fans have a history of turning on their coaches, as much as their fans make believe otherwise. The ran Denny Crum out of town, and were nipping at Pitino's heels in mid 2012 right around the time his staff turned up the hooker volume.
Mack's price tag would be very high, and at that point Gregg Marshall would move. The Texas job is already taken. Louisville can blow away Wichita with money, and Marshall wont have to drive to Peoria anymore.

Xavier is bigger than Chris Mack. It is a program, like so many of our Big East programs, that are built on history and consistent success. The program was not built by one coach. Xavier has had Mack, Sean Miller, Thad Matta, Skip Prosser, and Pete Gillen as its last five coaches. That is as impressive as any other program's five last coaches in the country. If/when Mack leaves Xavier, Xavier will replace him and continue winning and being successful.
Having said that, if Mack ever did make a move - Louisville would really be a perfect fit for him for a multitude of reasons, but to quote Jay Wright, "Why mess with happy?". But, Pitino is still there - and he isn't going to get fired. Only way the job opens is if Pitino resigns.
