Stupid isn't the right word, but I do think some kids are choosing schools out of high school for the wrong reasons. Go somewhere that fits the way you play, where you'll get playing time, and where you like the players, coaches and fans. If that's Kentucky, great. If that's Akron or Fairleigh-Dickinson well, free college education is still great no matter how you slice it. Either way, if I were the parent of a prospective D1 football or basketball player, those three factors are all I would consider important. Not "tradition" or "exposure" or "the city is cool". I can't imagine how hard it must be for some of these players to sit out a year, but its really not hard to look at top 25 programs at the beginning of each season and pick the two or three that are "at risk" to transfer, especially if you're intimately familiar with said program. That pattern of predictability suggests that coaches or players are doing something wrong in the process.
