Kind of funny that people are talking about Louisville firing Pitino. I think he's gone, but not because he'd get fired, but because he wants to go. He is pissed about the voluntary postseason ban.

I've actually heard some speculation about Pitino leaving for the UNLV job.

X needs to pay him in the $2-2.5 mill range and that should lock him up for the next half decade. Only a handful of programs go iver $3 mill, and most of those coaches have at least a final four and most have a championship ring.

Yeah, for those who are saying he only makes around $1M per year, they are wrong. Not sure what his compensation is now, but here is the salary information that is available:

2011-2012: $860,807 (A-10)
2012-2013: $1,109,453 (A-10)
2013-2014: $1,186,661 (First year of Big East)

I am sure he is closer to $2 million per year at this point. Better conference/more TV money, and more success. Plus his position was endowed by a local Cincy business exec/huge support of XU.

I am not worried about pay being a factor in him leaving. If he leaves, it will be for a different reason. (in my opinion)

I've always thought the U of L job would be one Mack would be interested in and I think Mack would be on a short list of candidates when it does open up.

I don't think it opens for at least five more years.

I think Louisville should try to get Sean Miller first. I think Miller would do great there and would strongly consider it.

Mack would probably be in their top 5 but I don't see him being the number one candidate unless he takes XU to a final 4 or two before the job is open.
