It will be interesting to see how the "new" officiating will effect defenses such as VCU's. They grab and hand check a ton, if the refs are consistent, half the team will foul out by halftime.

Which will make the game much more boring than physical defense does. Officials have to handle this all carefully, and I don't exactly trust them to handle it well.

Not really, it's meant to allow for more flow and more scoring. Sure, at the beginning, there will be a ton of whistles but the teams will have to adjust as long as the refs stay consistent.

Good luck with that one.
Big East Basketball is what it's always been. Great competition nightly.
If the Atlantic 10 didn't suck, why is everyone looking for the exits?
There is a reason why the A-10 left a team in the Central Time Zone...SLU, your move.

That's basically my point. You are assuming a) the refs stay consistent and b) the teams adjust properly. If this is the extreme change some people think it will be, you are completely changing the way players defend. It's not easy to ask players to do something different than they've been taught for maybe a decade. Even if refs call it well, what happens if players don't adjust quickly? Who gives in first to these boring free throw contests? The players/teams or the officials?

I'm not saying it won't be a smooth transition. Maybe it will. I'm just saying there are possibilities it is a lot more interesting, and that there is a chance it may not even work at all.

*probably need to adjust for bias, but an interesting observation.

Haven't seen as many SLU games as I have VCU. "Havoc" could just as easily be renamed "assault" IMO.

I think if kids starting fouling out or getting in foul trouble regularly, adjustments will come quickly. The issue here isn't getting kids to change; the issue is whether certain coaches will tell their kids to ignore the emphasis and keep fouling people to see if the refs will call it
